Chapter 29

  Evelyn kept running over what had happened the other night. Sirius Black had been tolerable. It truly was a miracle. It had almost been as if she were talking to a friend, and he seemed not to have held a grudge against her. Maybe in time, they'd become friends...maybe.

Evelyn was on her way to DADA. One of the classes she shared with Nicole. Marlene was in that class as well. She was worried about Nicole. She had been extremely close to Marlene, and Evelyn was worried that if Nicole got any closer she might develop somewhat of feelings for Marlene. Not that she was against it, she just didn't want her friend getting hurt.

Upon arriving, Evelyn noticed the desks were pushed to the sides of the classroom, leaving what she assumed was going to be an area where they would partner up and practice a spell. The brunette looked around for her friends when she spotted Marlene, Nicole, and Lily near the back of the room, talking amongst themselves.

Evelyn maneuvered around other students and waved to Nicole, " Has Gardner come out yet?" she asked no one in particular.

Lily shook her head, " No, but we can safely assume we're going to be practicing a spell, which is odd considering we haven't studied any spells yet,"

Evelyn nodded in agreement, " It is isn't it?"

Nicole leaned against one of the desks and sighed, " I'm so bloody bored,"

Marlene giggled, " You have absolutely no patience do you, love?"

Nicole raised a blonde brow and grinned, " Of course not,"

Evelyn felt her stomach drop slightly and turned away from the two, she had to talk to Nicole sometime.

Professor Gardner entered the room and the students promptly shut up. The man grinned, showing his pearly whites and brushed a hand through his jet black hair.

Evelyn rolled her eyes, she didn't have a problem with him but she felt he liked himself too much. It almost felt like he took the job to have teenage girls fawn over him.

" Okay class, today we will be practicing the Patronus charm-"

The door flew open and James and Sirius came in, " Sorry Professor we were in the hospital wing," said James with a pointed look.

Gardner's annoyed expression morphed into one of understanding, " I see, please place yourselves over there," he said gesturing to a spot across from where Evelyn was.

Evelyn caught James's eye and they shared a small smile before turning towards Gardner.

" As I was saying, we will be practicing the Patronus charm, can anyone tell us what it is and what it does,"

Evelyn and Lily both raised their hands, " Ah Ms. Truelove I saw your hand first," he said, indicating for her to continue.

" The Patronus Charm is a defensive spell which produces a silver animal guardian, used to protect a witch or wizard against Dementors."

Gardner nodded, " Like reading it out of a textbook, 5 points to Hufflepuff,"

Evelyn beamed and turned to her side, where she found Sirius looking at her with an amused smile. She raised her eyebrow and smiled, asking him 'What?' He just shook his head as if to say 'Nothing.'

Gardner continued, telling them what to say and how to move their wand. Evelyn listened intently and copied his movements.

" Now I'll be partnering you all up-"

The class, including Nicole, groaned in unison.

" - Ok Stebbins with Vance, McKinnon with Evans, Blanton with Black, Truelove with Potter, Armstrong with McPhearson-"
