Soon summer came to an end. The leaves gradually turned to shades of orange, red, and yellow; the warm summer breeze turned crisp and chilly as September first arrived. Evelyn and Nicole had celebrated their birthdays during the Summer, Nicole received a new broom and Evelyn was given new books and clothes.

Evelyn's russet eyes stared out of her compartment's window in deep thought. She wondered if she should take Nicole's advice and let down her hair a little this year. Yes, she did have all N.E.W.T classes but at the same time this was in her way her last year without having to worry about some big exam.

Maybe she should try dating again? There wasn't anyone she had in mind but you never know. She smiled to herself, yeah maybe she would take it easy.

Nicole decided to enter the compartment at that exact moment with Marlene and her friend Stephen in tow.

" Hey, Evelyn," greeted Marlene taking a seat beside Nicole while Stephen, who also greeted the brunette, placed himself beside Evelyn.

Nicole leaned back and smirked, " So Evelyn, Stephen tells me the seventh year Gryffindors planned a party tonight to start off the beginning of the year, you wanna go?"

Evelyn smiled, " Why not," she said with a shrug.

Marlene clapped her hands, " I was hoping you would say yes because I have this dress that would look perfect on you," she said with girlish delight.

Stephen struck up a conversation with Nicole about Quidditch and Marlene continued to ramble on to Evelyn about her trip to Paris over the summer, and how she literally 'shopped till she dropped'. Evelyn listened intently, genuinely enjoying Marlene's story.

" Hey Evelyn a guy in my year wants to know if you're seeing anyone, " quipped Stephen.

Evelyn felt herself blush slightly while Marlene practically jumped to Evelyn and Stephen's seat and grabbed his brown hand with her pale one, " Oh my Merlin! Who?"

Nicole's eyes darkened slightly and narrowed, this didn't go unnoticed by Evelyn, who's embarrassment quickly faded to the all too familiar ' oh no' feeling.

-

After the feast, Marlene practically flew to her common room, grabbed her makeup, her dress, and the dress she picked out for Evelyn; then ran to the Hufflepuff Common Room where she was greeted by Nicole and Evelyn.

They led her to their room where Stacey was busy curling her hair and the other two girls were chatting about upcoming classes.

Marlene held up the dress that Evelyn was supposed to wear and beamed at Nicole's gaping face, " Oh my God, Ev, you're going to look so fucking hot,"

Evelyn's face turned a light shade a pink, " Shut up, or I won't go!" she barked.

Marlene giggled and began talking to the other girls who were also getting ready.

The party was only known about by the 6th and 7th years, and even then not all of them knew about it. Evelyn guessed there would be about 30 or 40 people at the party, which was fine by her.

Evelyn grabbed the dusty pink chiffon dress and smiled. True to 70's fashion it had bell-bottom sleeves and a mid-thigh length. Marlene had brought platform shoes the same color for her.

Evelyn felt a wave of anxiety wash over her and frowned, she wasn't sure if she could do this.

About an hour later people began heading to the party. Evelyn told Marlene and Nicole to go on ahead, she still had to do her makeup- which was a lie because she wasn't even going.

Evelyn paced back and forth across her dorm, should she say here where it was safe or go to the party and die? the first option didn't seem so bad.

What happened she had been all for it earlier? She had even managed to make her curls into soft waves- and that wasn't exactly easy. Evelyn's eyes glanced toward the door where her shoes were and frowned.

-

Marlene and Nicole were led into the common room by a Gryffindor 4th year who was playing lookout for the evening. Marlene wore a deep blue mod dress while Nicole donned her usual bell-bottoms and band t-shirt.

" I don't understand why you didn't dress up, Nic," huffed Marlene, " You would have looked so pretty,"

Nicole smiled, " Nah, I only dress up for special occasions, this is just another party."

Marlene rolled her eyes but smiled, " Whatever,"

Nicole led them over to the butterbeer and firewhiskey," But don't worry, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to see me all dolled up," she said with a wink.

Marlene smirked, " I sure hope so,"

-

Evelyn fought the urge to run back to the common room, but forced herself to keep moving toward the Gryffindor Common Room, this was freaking sucked, she thought. She flapped her arms around, looking a bird, as she tried to dry up the rather unattractive nervous sweat.

She rounded a corner where she saw a boy, who she believed to be either a 4th or 5th year standing outside the portrait.

He motioned for her to follow him and as soon as the door swung open she could hear music, laughing, and people talking. She was going to just die right then and there.

Evelyn bit the inside of her cheek, all she had to do was find Nicole, and everything would be fine, IT WOULD BE FINE.

-

Sirius and James lounged near the fireplace and talked amongst themselves. Sirius had missed this more than he would admit, he loved Hogwarts.

James began talking about his plan to 'finally' get Evans to fall for him when he trailed off, his Hazel eyes staring across the room. Sirius followed his friend's gaze and it landed on none other than Evelyn Truelove.

His stomach dropped and fluttered at the same time, she looked beautiful.

She was greeted by Marlene and Blanton, she then turned and waved to Remus who was grabbing them all butterbeers, she then walked over and gave him a hug.

" Hey I'll be right back," James murmured for making his way over to Truelove.

Sirius watched as James bowed his head and began talking, his words landing deaf on Sirius's ears, drowned out by Queen's 'Brighton Rock', but he already knew what the messy-haired boy was saying.

Something Sirius also had to say.
