 November 2nd, 1981- 6:32 a.m.

Bartemius Crouch had seen a lot of things in his time. He'd interacted with the criminals and dementors of Azkaban, watched hundreds of 'heart-breaking' trials, sent people to their death, but nothing could've prepared him for this.

It was the second of November and it had been two days since Voldemort disappeared, everyone's initial action was a relief but when word got out it was the doing of Sirius Black- many who had met him couldn't believe it.

Impossible they had said, Black and Potter were as close as brothers at school. His own son who had been 2 years below them had said so as well, but the evidence was pointing right at him- and there sure was a lot.

Barty considered himself fair, and he considered himself a good man who did the ' terrible things' for the right reasons. So Black was sent off into Azkaban without trial, and his wife's trial was today. The auroras had tried questioning her but to no avail. They had told them in the reports that she would just babble nonsense.

He didn't think the young woman was faking it after being told of what they found at her house. When discussing things with Mrs. Black's doctor and therapist they had both said they weren't surprised she'd broke.

Her husband's betrayal and sudden arrestment must have been the last straw, Barty had been disturbed to learn she had watched as two of her close friends were tortured then murdered, and about 10 years back she'd seen an auror die when she was only 11.

When the department discovered this tad bit of information many felt sorry for the woman, while the others were grumbling how they were only going to get a bunch of shite out of her and nothing useful.

Barty himself was somewhere in between, yes he felt bad for the woman but at the same time, he needed her to give him answers. They had questioned Remus Lupin who had been close with Pettigrew, The Potters, and The Blacks.

They had asked if Black had ever seemed aggressive toward his wife, ever hit her, made threats, or did she ever seem scared of him.

Lupin had shaken his head and replied gravely, " If anything it was Evelyn who made threats, Black's a sick man but he never laid a finger on her in that way, if anything he worshipped the ground she walked on."

They had asked him about his past and the relationship with his wife," Black and I were best friends, along with James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. We were all inseparable, teachers had a nickname for us, everyone knew Black's name, and I'll be lying if I said he didn't like it. He was a lady's man, a player if you will, but around our fourth and fifth year, he started noticing, Evelyn. She and I were friends and James was very protective over her, so when Sirius had put his sights on her we weren't exactly happy about it."

" But she wouldn't give him the light of day till our sixth year, something changed in Sirius. He stopped sleeping around and spent all his free time with her in the library, which he and James avoided like the plague. That December they went on their first date, and ever since then they've been together."

" I know a good bit about Sirius's home life, but not as nearly as much as James and Evelyn did. What I do know is that he claimed to hate it, hate it with every bone in his being, and he dated muggleborns and half-blood and blood-traitors. He was a pureblood from a dark family in the house of bloody Godric Gryffindor! I mean, you would've thought the same as I."

" But what confuses me was that he married Evelyn, a half-blood. An American witch, and as you know people like Sirius's family aren't really keen on American witches and wizards. Was he playing her all along? Was he actually happy that he married her? Did he really love her? Did he really love Eurielle, his own daughter? Or was it all just a game to him? The very thought pisses me off to no end because I believe Evelyn is innocent, you'd never meet a more beautiful person. She loved Sirius, she loved him so much, Evelyn is a giver and Sirius....he's a taker...and Merlin did he take."
