Janice's eyes snapped open. She was on her back, her chest heaving from both pain and shock, and her head was throbbing as the room spun. Her lungs felt like they were on fire, but with a grunt of effort, she forced herself to sit up.
A chorus of voices immediately caught her attention. "She's awake!" "Finally!" "Yay!" "About time!" "Hurray!" "Vhat a relief!"
Her friends were by her side in a fraction of a second, all talking at once. "Are you okay?" "How are ya?" "Please be all right, please, please, please!" "Do you need anything, meow?" "Is this really gonna make her any better?" "I do not think this is vhat ve need to be doing."
"Guys! One at a time!" Janice begged. Her head was hurting too much to take all that racket.
The room was silent after she said that, and everyone stared at her expectantly. She sighed, looking from one person to the next and forcing her body to stay in a sitting position, and then she spoke. "So...how long have I been asleep?"
"About an hour," a yellow flower responded. "We're trying to think of a plan to stop this 'Shadow Queen' person Akira told us about, but so far no one has any ideas that sound reasonable." He leaned closer and whispered in her ear. "Jean-Luc even said he was gonna slice her into pieces...not the most effective strategy..."
Stubborn Flower: Ricky
"Are you okay?" Akira asked, coming into view as Janice winced from a sharp pain in her head. His expression was troubled.
"I-I'm fine...just a headache, give me a second, please..." She stood still for a moment before trying to get up, but a black-clothed thief held her down.
"Hold it right there. We're not gonna let you go that fast!" he said stubbornly. "You just woke up!"
Stubborn Thief: Jean-Luc
"Give her a chance, meow," a cat named Teresa reprimanded. "We need to work together if we want to fix this, meow."
Cool Cat: Teresa
"Fine, but if she passes out again, we're going on without her."
"That's not nice!" an imp named Scarlette snapped.
"So," Janice said, tired of listening to them argue, "what's the plan?"
"Well, Akira told us that we should try and save the Great Sage, since she can add some firepower to our team," Apollo began. "Then, once we do that, we can see if we can find the Shadow Queen's headquarters, break in, and show her who's boss. Boom! World saved."
"Sounds good to me. But maybe we should each get into groups, so we can cover more ground. So..." Janice looked at everyone, "how about Akira, Ethan, Cadence, me, and Antonia can look in Greenhorne...Apollo, Teresa, Jean-Luc, and Ricky can look in Neksdor...Scarlette, Trinity, Cameron, and Lazarus can search in the Realm of the Fey...and we'll go from there."
"All right! Let's go save the world!" Ethan cheered, to the agreement of the others.
Kind of a short one, but I have more stuff planned for this story. (Although I think you guys are gonna be raging at me when you get to the ending. The reason remains to be seen.)
Janice: Do you really have to make me go through this, Author?
Me: Yes. Yes I do.
Janice: You are sick.
Me: You want sick? Read my Mario one.
Janice: Haha, very funny. *muttering* Half-wit...
Me: I heard that!!
Janice: I'll go now.
