Taehyung's Pov

I sat on the balcony outside of my room where I had a clear display of my garden. With my robes draping from my side, I stood up and walked forward to the edge where I rested my arms as I slowly looked up to the night sky.

"Tsk... I can barely see any stars. When will I get to see real stars instead of satellites?" I said, sulking as I thought deeper about it. "When will I get to hear you say you like me- no, you love me?" I sighed. "Heh, I'm talking to myself again," I shook my head, chuckling to myself before sitting back in the chair.

I continued to look up at the sky to find anything real but false hope. And suddenly, it reminded me of my father.
"Dad... I miss you..."

"Daddy, can you tell me that story again about how you met mom?" I asked eagerly before making myself comfortable in my bed.

"You already heard that story so many times! Why? You want to learn a few things from your dad before you try finding a girl when you grow up?" Grandma teased me.

"Mom, I'm sure Taehyung will do just fine without me when he finds his love someday. He's only 5 years old," Dad said.

"Of course, he will! Look how handsome he is," she said as she squeezed my cheek gently, "He's my grandchild after all. He takes on after you. I won't be surprised if our company would be in high demand someday because he's so handsome that anyone is willing to do anything for him," she said confidently.

"You should go get some rest, Mom. It's past his bedtime now," Dad told her before turning to me.

"Tsk... you're always like this all the time," Grandma scoffed before throwing Dad a playful punch before standing from my bed. "Goodnight Taehyung. Sweet dreams, okay?" she said.

I nodded in response.

She made her way out through my bedroom door and closed it, leaving me alone with my dad.

"Taehyung, since daddy has a few things to work on from work, can I break down the story for you? I don't think we'll have time for story time tonight, tiger," he said as he gently patted my head.

"It's okay daddy, there's always next time!" I reassured.

"Well, when I was just a little bit older than your age, I went to a new school because I wasn't a good boy at the time. I was a bad boy. Daddy would always get in trouble," he expressed with hand gestures.

"You were a bad boy? Not a good boy like me?" I gasped.

He chuckled before continuing, "Yes, I wasn't a good boy like you. I was very naughty and the teachers did not like me. I would not do my homework, I would talk back, skip classes, and get sent to the office. And then..." he trailed off, "I saw your mom," he smiled warmly, looking down to hide the blush that was visible on his cheeks. "The first thing your mom ever said to me was, 'Get a hold of yourself and mind your business dummy!'" he chuckled, reminiscing the memories. "She was like the queen bee of my honey tree. She was very exotic. That was what got me to come after your mom."

"What does... 'exotic' mean?" I curiously asked.

"Oh, well, exotic means 'rare', maybe 'strange', and maybe 'beautiful', just like your mother," he smiled down at me. "But tiger, mommy didn't like daddy at first because daddy was a very bad boy."

"Did daddy become a good boy for mommy then?" I said eagerly.

"It took a while, but mommy eventually started to love me because I told mommy that he loved her very much. I promised her that I'll make her happy in every way possible that she desired," he answered.

"What made mommy happy then?" I asked.

Dad suddenly came over and made himself comfortable next to me while fixing himself under my covers, "You. You were the best gift she could ever receive from the heavens. You made her the happiest person alive," he said.

"I made mommy happy? Mommy was really happy to see me?" I asked excitingly.

"The one and only," he winked.

"I wish mommy was here with us, daddy. Mommy would have loved me too, just like you and grandma! That would have been triple the love that I would have had," I sulked.

Dad's smile soon turned into a sad one. The memories of mom before she passed away due to blood loss while giving birth to me. Her words still echo in his head, begging him to not blame me for her death.

"Even though mommy isn't here with us, I'm sure she loves you just as much as grandma and I do, but from up there though," he said pointing to the sky outside my window.

"Is mommy that star right there?" I said pointing to the shiniest one in the sky.

"Yes, and you want to know something?" he said, making my head turn in his direction. "Mommy said that if you ever wanted something, just look for mommy in the sky and make a wish."

"Will it come true?"

"If it's mommy, she's willing to make anything come true for you, tiger," Dad said as he hugged me closer to him.

I leaned my head on his shoulder as we both looked outside through my window to see the shiniest star, shining the brightest among the dimmest stars in the pitch-black darkness of midnight.

"Daddy, I thought you said you have work?" I turned to look at him.

"Mhm... daddy will spend the night with you instead. Or else the monsters will come out when I leave you alone," he chuckled.

"Monsters? I don't see any monsters?" I said as I looked at my closet and under my bed.

"That's because... he's... right...here!" Dad said dramatically before tickling me.

Our night ended in warmth and laughter.

I looked again in my garden to see the horizon starting to rise. It was almost dawn.

Was I not tired at all this whole night? I stayed up again...

The indigo and red-orange colors began to appear as the sun slowly rose. I lifted myself from my seat to find myself walking toward the end of the balcony again. "All my life, I came to a point where I wanted to give it all up. I wanted to approach the devil himself for making me suffer now that dad is with you up there, mom, but it's not your fault. No, it was never your fault. It just... happened," I said as I tried to keep my tears from falling. "The world is an evil place filled with arrogance, greed, and selfishness. You know how people say that good people die first because heaven is a better place for them to stay than living in this hell? I guess heaven is just as greedy because they took you and dad away from me," I said.

"All my life... I have never wanted anything as much as this before. Medals? Competition? Certificates? Recognition? I never wanted any of that. All I want... is Rui," I managed to say, now turning my attention to see the brightest star in the sky, "This is my wish, mother. I want Rui to be mine."
