-Uldren-

A few hours after the Guardian had left, Mara and I were surprised to see her return. I scoff when we see her walk in, this time without an escort.

"It is alive. And still has its ball." Mara says as way of greeting. The Guardian says nothing as she approaches, getting to the end of the bridge that connects the outside to Mara's throne.

"There is no shame in running away Guardian. Apart from the cowardice and failure of it, it's an excellent strategy." I say mockingly.

"We didn't run." she says in her low, smokey voice. We exchange a look of confusion before Mara turns to the Guardian.

"Was no Gate Lord slain then, brother?" she asks me and the Guardian crosses her arms over her chest.

"We did slay a Gate Lord." her Ghost says. I couldn't believe it.

"Ares." she says. A flash of light appears and then the head of the Gate Lord landed with a crash, where Mara and I look at it with surprise. She had actually killed one, and came back quickly.

"I've done my part. Now, we need to find the Black Garden." she says. Mara studies her for a moment and I scoff. This was just too precious.

"Hmph....they don't even know where it is." I say, gazing at the Guardian.

"Let us tell them. Search the Gate Lord for that which gains them entrance." she says. I couldn't believe my ears. Why did we have to help them?

"Why? If you wish them certain death, just kill them here!" I hiss.

"Often when we guess at others motives, we reveal only our own." she says quietly while I sigh heavily.

"My motive is simply loyalty. To a people, a Queen, and a sister." I remind her, kneeling before her. But Mara only gazes at me passively.

"Then please...take what is required." she says. I stand up, drawing my knife as I approach the Gate Lord's head. With a bit of work, I withdraw the eye. The red glow dims and I smirk.

"Dead, unfortunately. A wasted journey I'm afraid." I announce. Mara thinks for a moment.

"Perhaps, but I think this one's resourceful. We gift it, in sympathy for their Traveler." she says. I clench my jaw and turn to look at the Guardian.

"Mars. Eighty-four North. Thirty-two East. Meridian Bay." I throw the eye at her and she catches it with ease, almost lazily. Mara stands up and the Guardian takes notice.

"I have shown you benevolence Guardian. Should the Awoken ever need an ally I will call on you. And expect you to answer." she says. I sheathe my knife with a scowl.

"She's saying you owe us, Guardian." I say with a growl. The Guardian looks towards me then to Mara.

"I understand, Your Grace." she finally says, bowing her head to Mara. With that, she turns and walks towards the door and I can't help but to admire that ass on her. I clear my mind for a moment remembering something.

"Good luck! Getting through the exclusion zone...."
