Blooming Friendship

JACK

North had asked Jack to stay in the workshop as the others were brought back to the castle through the portals. He felt quite uncomfortable and nervous now that his friends had left him alone in an unfamiliar place, but he told himself he shouldn't because North is with him after all.

The headmaster let out a few more reminders after showing his memories to them. To Hiccup's delight, his dragon, Toothless, is not to be sent in any Dragon Sanctuary. Let alone, Berk. And much to his and Gobber's knowledge, just having his father find out about his pet dragon would be a massive problem to them. Dragons are not meant to be friends with vikings. All vikings are being trained to fight–and even kill–dragons if these creatures ever attempt to attack their island. Hiccup is a trainee himself, and as well as Astrid, Snotlout, Ruffnut, Tuffnut and Fishlegs. Vikings are being trained once they turn 14. And now their main goal, is to find a dragon nest, which Hiccup and Astrid happened to have discovered THE dragon nest. Hiccup is dead meat once his father, chief of Berk, ever finds out about his dirty little secret. But it wasn't just Hiccup who had a secret.

Rapunzel was more worried about Astrid finding out about her hair. And given that she barely knew Astrid and had very little interaction with her, she had every reason not to entrust her secret to her. So, she requested if North can obliviate her regarding the matter. Hiccup on the other hand, oddly didn't take her remark that well, and became very defensive for Astrid. Saying that Astrid is capable to keep it to herself as she have kept his. North had decided not to obliviate Astrid as Rapunzel would rather prefer. However, he does need to talk to Astrid about it.

Merida wasn't really that good in hiding her feelings though. Or perhaps Jack was just a psychic and was really good in reading people's expressions. She always had the same bitter look on her face whenever someone mentions "Astrid", especially if it came from Hiccup. No matter how hard she tried to stay lowkey, it wouldn't hide the fact that she was jealous of the viking girl. Although almost vomitting from the thought, Jack actually felt sorry for her. He kind of knew how it also felt, but then again he was only confused with his feelings whenever he sees the Slytherin quidditch captain and the blonde together. Anyway, Merida will never get her chance with Hiccup. He remembered all the moments when Hiccup mentioned Astrid to him, there was always this unexplained glimmer in his eyes as he told stories about them in Berk (and their training). Even though it was mostly about how Astrid was being very salty towards him and the time she threw a bucket of ice at him (a prank from her and the twins).

Exacerbating Jack's mood was the stupid ideas he had sort out on how he was going to tell his mother about him dying. I should tell her on my birthday, that way she would be at least a little less angry. Should he tell her through a letter, or at Christmas break? Or after the school year ends, would be better. Just don't tell her, you're alive now, aren't you?

But Jack is smarter than that. He knew he had to tell her sooner. Tonight. That's not what happened at all.

All of his thoughts had crashed down all at once like a stacked up jenga once North informed him that he had already sent a letter to his mother. He was left dumb-founded on his chair, speechless. And instead of a dreadful pounding of his heart that he dreaded, he felt a satisfying relief from his heart to his toes. At least he got rid of the first part. Now he just had to worry about whatever consequences his mother would give him.
