"WAKE up! Wake up!"
Elsa heaved an exhausted sigh and hugged her pillow as a smaller body crawled on top of her. Chancing a peak, she lifted a heavy eyelid and noticed the blue beams from their giant triangular windowpanes creeping across the wooden floorboards as the moonlight cast its bright rays through the glass. It was still dark out, and that's all little Elsa's mind needed to know.
"Go back to bed, Anna!" She raised an arm trying to push her younger sister off.
Anna fell to the floor with a thump, and Elsa cringed, waiting for the sounds of her sisters crying, but instead, a sigh of annoyance escaped past her lips when she felt a tug at her sheets. "I can't," Anna said, falling against her again. "The sky's awake. So I'm awake. So we have to play!"
Elsa squeezed her eyes tightly shut, hoping that if she ignored her sister, Anna would return to her bed. A hand smacked her face, prying open an eye, and Anna stared down at her with a sly grin. "Do you wanna build a snowman?"
A tiny grin tugged at the corner of Elsa's lips, and Anna leaped over her tumbling to the ground before springing up and running out of the room giggling. "Anna, wait!" She threw back the covers and took off after her sister, but not without first grabbing Anna's coat and boots that sat in a heap by the door.
Anna pushed open the tall double doors to the Grand Hall, and Elsa poked her head inside glancing around the large room. She felt small fingers intertwine her own and she looked down as Anna yanked on her hand to pull her further into the room.
An idea popped into her mind, and she quickly shoved Anna's jacket and boots in her at Anna. "Quick, put these on! Remember Papa's story?" she asked. Anna's eyes widened with excitement.
Elsa threw her hands out, feeling a tingle leave her fingertips, and ice flowed through her veins. Tall trees made entirely of ice sprouted around the marble floor along with large boulders. Snow people, not wearing normal Arendelle garments, stood still amongst the trees along with reindeer. Elsa balled her hands and the ice stopped, and Anna swiftly threw on her boots and jacket before sprinting into the snow while laughing wildly.
Elsa raced after Anna, catching her sister's contagious laughter. The snow burst to life like it had received a mind of its own. Reindeer pranced around and Anna rode on top giggling. It warmed Elsa's heart to think she could make Anna so happy. Another idea struck her, and ice built up in her palms. She leveled her hands over the floor and ice flowed through her onto the snow-covered marble.
Giant creatures rose before her, and Anna's eyes widened, her mouth dropping to the floor as she jumped off her ride and rushed over to the giants. She scurried up the back of one of the nearest ones. "I can see everything from up here!" Her tiny voice boomed throughout the Great Hall.
Elsa smiled widely and laughed. "Just be careful up there! You don't want to fall!" She watched as her sister climbed around the head of the creature she had conjured. It was always up to her to be the most responsible—seeing she was the oldest—and watch out for her sister's safety.
Her attention was drawn away from Anna when the sound of hooves scraping against the snow filled her small ears. She twisted her head to the right to see a reindeer scraping its hoof along the snow before suddenly charging after her. She stood back and gasped, her heart pounding.
As the reindeer approached, she could see that its face—once the happy grin that Elsa had conjured—now held an angry scowl and its eyes glowed a deep red. Fear gripped her tight, and for the first time ever she felt truly frozen. She willed her legs to move as the beast drew close, and she leaped out of the way, landing on her hands and knees in the snow, just before the reindeer made contact.
