MY LIFE WAS DOOMED from the moment my parents decided it was enough

MY LIFE WAS DOOMED from the moment my parents decided it was enough. They were tired of the Abners rule over the Coven. They practiced dark magic to make themselves more powerful to us rather than our equal leaders. The witches were placed into the world to help the less fortunate and be workers of the Earth. The Abners had broken the rule that was the bane of our existence. They wanted more powers and would take it however they could. I never met them because they died right after I was born. My earliest memory is being five years old and being terrified to go to class. Today we would be learning how to induce fire using spells in Latin. I'd been moved to New Orleans to live at the Covens Institute. Before this I had spent my time as a baby and toddler with my Aunt Kira. She told me that the female witches of the Drang line were extremely powerful. Our family name was one of the seven founding members. She told me not to be nervous about my power and to use it with caution and to my advantage.

I was now twelve and remembered the look on everyone's faces. They sneered at me with disgusts, it'd been this way for a while. Ever since I'd been sent here, everyone knew about my family. They knew why my parents were killed and that I had wolf blood. It wasn't rare but it wasn't necessarily welcomed. The only friend I had at the time was Lennox. At the time I didn't know his family was responsible for my parent's deaths and we were inseparable.

"She's a Hybrid. The only reason he hangs out with her is to make sure she doesn't act out like her parents. At least that's what my mom said". I remembered my blood boiling at the sound of the young witch's voice. So I made sure she felt it. I focused on her and the rage she made me feel. She put down the herbs she was holding and began screaming. She was sweating and turning redder by the second. I was distracted when I heard his voice,

"You know, if you really want to make her hurt, I'd kill her dog and make sure she knew it was me".

I scrunch my nose in repulse and turn around. Lennox was standing there and looking cute as ever. He had tan skins and bright green eyes.

"Lennox, you're crazy. I don't wanna kill her. She just pissed me off."

He shrugged and reached over to shake my shoulders.

"Okay Nova," he said in a sing-song voice, "Whatever you say!"

And that was pretty much how it always went with him. He was always saying inappropriate things and getting away with it because of his name. Things got more serious when we turned eighteen. Everyone in the institute was to return home now that they graduated and were trained well in the art of witchcraft. Except for me and Lennox. We were eighteen now and I had nowhere to stay except Kira's but she lived on the pack grounds and I didn't belong. Lennox on the other hand was preparing to take over his father's position as the next leader of the coven. Lennox constantly joked around the idea of me joining him but I never paid attention to him. We were no longer good friends like when we were younger. He had fully immersed himself in black magic and if I was being honest, I feared him.

When I was 21, there was an incident that made me leave the institution and never want to come back. I remember I had returned back from the streets of New Orleans after doing some shopping and was ready to rest. I had made my way to my room in the institute when I opened my door and he was sitting on my bed. He was staring off into space and hadn't heard me come open the door. He was twisting a knife between his fingers. I closed the door as quietly as I could and dropped my bags. I began to run and he heard me, "Nova? Are you there?"

He chased after me and I found refuge in one of our training rooms. I was hiding behind a table full of weapons.

"Nova, where are you? I just wanna talk. I miss you and I want to fix things. I want you to rule beside me". My heart was pounding and I felt it go faster after he finished talking. I quietly chanted in Latin, Ignalusa. I set one of the tables on fire to distract him while I tried to run again. He turned around and mumbled curses and I took my chance. My boots clicked against the floor and he swiftly turned around. I felt a sharp pain in my ankle and saw he had thrown the knife he was holding into my leg. I would have called for help but everyone had left for the holidays. There were teachers here and there but they were nowhere to be found right now. No doubt he had probably killed them. I tried scooting away from him as he approached me slowly. My breathing is hard and rigid as I feel myself losing blood. Lennox kneels in front of me, "I just want you to rule with me. All you have to do is give in". My stomach turned at the sight of the dark magic coming forward.

This wasn't the first time Lennox asked me to give in and do dark magic, but it would be the last time he got the chance to try and change me

This wasn't the first time Lennox asked me to give in and do dark magic, but it would be the last time he got the chance to try and change me. I take his hand tentatively, hoping it looks convincing enough. He leans forward and pulls the knife out of my leg. I take this as my chance and gather my energy to I grabcast another spell. I chant, Patere: a spell to induce telekinesis and push my hands forward. His body flies back and hits the brick wall. I limp over and make sure he's knocked out. I pack my stuff and leave the institute, never looking back.

I decided to make a trip to the Lupus pack. She mentioned Faye would be having a surprise party for Dominic. This meant no one would be home. Lennox took the only home I'd ever known and made it the place I'd hate forever. Three years had passed and I would be going back to the institute to save the life of a man I barely knew. I had changed for the better and I was happy.
