THE SUN HAD RISEN bright and unwelcomed. I groaned when the sun came in the room from one of the windows. I felt different and realized Nova had done the linking spell and was linked to me for the next twenty-four hours.
I opened our mind link Nova? A few seconds passed and I got a response, Okay this is so weird but kind of cool.
Today feels like hell. She agrees saying she couldn't sleep all night. We agreed to meet up in the breakfast area with Dominic and Alec. None of the witches in the cafeteria paid us attention. It was unsettling, no one looked us in the eye. I approach Nova, "Is no one looking at us because we're with you or because we're wolves?'
She shrugged, popping a grape in her mouth. "Probably both. I don't exactly have the best reputation, everyone thinks I left because I tried to kill Lennox when it was the complete opposite". I rolled my eyes, you'd think the people would support the good person here. She said she was gonna take advantage of being here and to look for some witchy materials. The ceremony wasn't going to take place until the sun went down. Lennox mentioned yesterday using the moon as a power source. I asked Dominic if he wanted to come with Alec and me to explore the french quarter but he said he'd rather stay than be a third wheel. I tried telling him we'd keep the affection on the down-low but he still refused. I left his room and went to mine to grab my bag and sweater in case it got chilly. Alec knocked before walking in. "Ready?"
I nodded excitedly and took his hand. We walked hand and hand through the halls of the institute. My heart nearly melted when I felt the same electrifying sparks whenever our kind touched. I would never get tired of it.
I said to head to Bourbon street first, and we walk around just admiring the city life. He notices a group of tourists and pulls me to the back of the line. I stand there not wanting to intrude. I look around nervously. "Shouldn't we pay or something ? ". He ignores my question, "We need to catch up or we'll lose them!" I can't help but follow him and the crowd. I was the freaking Alpha of an entire pack, I needed to take risks sometimes. The crowd stops in front of a small store and the guide goes on about the presence of supposed witches. The lady tells the tourist to go inside browse for trinkets and some do. I can't keep my eyes off a necklace that's on the stand by the window. I swear I could have seen it glow. I feel goosebumps grow on the back of my neck when I feel Alec's breath near it. "Do you like it?" I shrugged not knowing what to say. "I guess I'm more intrigued than in love." He takes hold of my hand and drags us into the store. He asks the man at the register to take it off the window sill saying he'd like to buy it.
"You don't have to buy it". It seemed like a waste, especially with everything going on right now. He hands the man a bill and tells me to turn around. I grab my hair and move to one side as he clasps the necklace.
"Nonsense, if you like it, I love it". And once again I felt my heart almost melt at his words.
We decided to ditch the tour and grab some beignets at the bakery across the street. By the time we finished the bag of fried batter the sun was going down leaving beautiful arrangements of pinks and oranges as our backdrop.
