I WAS AWAKENED BY a bucket splash of water hitting me. The cold water instantly woke me up. I could feel my eyes shift from green to yellow. Anger or shock could change the color of the human's eyes and let the wolf gain control.
"Got you Alec!" instantly frowning I realized it was only my younger brother Dean who had started this attack.
Groaning I got out of my bed only to see him and the 4 other members of our family in my room. Suddenly I felt sheepish and embarrassed for only wearing a pair of boxers before bed. My Mother and Father Mary and Darin stood next to the twins Andrea and Arden. Standing in the middle was Dean holding a blue envelope. They were all silently staring.
"You guys you know I love you all but this is getting kinda creepy". I said letting out a chuckle.
They were all holding in their excitement and when Dean couldn't wait any longer he spit out,
"Queen Faye has formally invited you to the Lupine Trials." The way Dean said this news made him uncomfortable. There was no way the Queen had sent an invitation to join for just himself. His siblings were wonderful fighters and were more than capable to compete if they desired.
Moving out of bed, I reached for the invitation in Deans hand and read,
Dear Hale Family of the Shadowmoon pack,
I, Queen and Alpha Faye Labonair formally request for the Hale siblings to compete in the Lupine Trials. I look forward to meeting my possible future confidantes.
It is an extreme honor to even compete in the Lupine Trials, but to be requested was an immense honor. I felt a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. I knew I was a good enough fighter but I couldn't help but feel nervous. This wasn't like me at all.
As we all piled into the kitchen to eat at the table, I grabbed my breakfast and sat down. Although I wasn't blood-related to the Hale family, I always felt at peace that they took me in. I came from Alpha blood and sadly wasn't able to rule my pack. At five years old my pack was attacked and the entire population of it didn't survive. I was the only remaining member of the Acalia Pack. It was small and ruled by my late parents. Mary and Dorin were pack warriors of the neighboring pack and took me in. Since then, I lived and train with their children. Dean was the oldest at 22 while the twins were 21. I'd just turned 24 a couple months ago and was finally able to finish my last tests to become an official pack warrior like Mary and Dorin. There wasn't much else we learned about other than training and fighting. Of course we were taught of mates and how it worked but the schools here never spent too much time on the subject. It just wasn't a priority in our pack.
"Alec, sweetheart. Are you alright? You've barely touched your eggs".
Mary was quite possibly a grandma in the body of a mother. She could make you feel loved and cared for.
Brushing off my nerves, I look up and smile at her.
"Of course", I take in a mouthful of the eggs and swallow before I speak again.
Looking towards my father I ask, "When do we begin traveling to the Lupus Pack?"
~
It was now May 24th and my entire family was only 20 minutes away from the Lupine pack. The car ride with Dean and the twins was.. interesting to say the least. The twins were going on and on about how beautiful the Alpha is and how they'd love to get a chance to talk to her at the ball before the trials. Dean on the other hand was excited to meet other females besides the ones in the pack. As for me, I was feeling terrible. I could feel myself slowly sweating more and more the closer we got to the Lupus pack grounds. Then I felt as if my skin was on fire. I had never gotten this sick, solely to the fact that werewolves have a greater immune system than humans.
As I was breathing in and out trying to be as quiet as possible, Dean noticed. With a disgusted look on his face he said, "Yo, Alec. Not to be rude or anything but you look like shit".
I groaned and laid my head back on the car seat while the twins laughed at the expressions Dean was making.
Looking to Andrea I pleaded with my eyes and hoped she'd tell me the truth, "Drea, be honest. Do I look that bad?"
Andrea was the nicer one of the twins and that's why I asked her. If I had decided to ask Arden, I was sure I'd get the brutal truth and I wouldn't be able to stand that right now.
Taking a big gulp, Andrea set her phone down and faced me. As she opened her mouth, Arden popped up from behind the second row of seats in the car.
"Big brother, I'm gonna be honest. You look like pure shit. But hey, who knows maybe the Alpha won't cut your head off before the trials!"
This comment got Arden a smack to the head from Dean and Andrea.
Rolling my eyes, I turned my head around to Arden. I only mumble, "This is why I asked Andrea not you."
Wiping off a layer of sweat from my forehead, I feel Andrea lay her head on my shoulder.
Looking up at me sympathetically she said, "Don't worry big brother, I think you're gonna be just fine".
Dean ruins the moment by making loud gagging noises, expressing his annoyance with Andreas kindness.
This earns him a smack from Mary. As we enter a new road of streets and buildings, Dorin calls out to us,
"Welcome to the Lupus pack my annoying children. Prepare for the worst hell week of your life."
