Fuel to Fire

chapter thirteen

I DIDN'T WANT TO admit it but Nova had already helped. Alec had spent the rest of the day lifting objects. I was happy he was able to control one of his gifts but it also reminded me it was only one. I left him with Kira and Nova so that he could practice without me there. There were still three other elements and from the looks of it it could take a while. Nova and Kira would be staying with us for a few more days and I was dreading it. I also thought of Dominic and how he was handling her presence. His relationship with his parents was fine but I knew his mother being part witch bothered him deep down. I decided it was time I apologized and went to search for him. I reached out in our mind link but he didn't respond. I asked some of the staff who was walking by and one girl said he'd asked for a meal to go and believed he was going to the clearing in the forest. I made my way over and sighed in relief when I saw him standing in front of the rushing river. I called out his name and he turned around. I walked forward and took a seat on the sand as I waited for him. He had been skipping rocks and threw the final one before he sat down next to me.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Nova."

He sighed and the stone-cold expression he had been keeping disappeared and in its place was a small smile. I looped my arm in his and laid my head on his shoulder "I know what she said in there was fucked up but she's the same. No matter how much she tries to hide it, she is part wolf". It was no secret that Nova was 1/4 wolf because of her mother and she tried to suppress it as much as she could.

"She's just jealous as am I, you've got a mate and the security that you'll have each other forever. For people like us, it's different. It just sucks". My heart breaks at the pain in his voice. People like Kira who was half-witch and half-wolf had difficulties with mates. Kira inherited all the abilities of a werewolf except the wolf itself; she didn't have the ability to transform into a wolf. Without the soul of the wolf, her mate journey was destined to fail. It's exactly what happened to her and Xavier. She loved Xavier but it couldn't compare to his. It wasn't equal and the same would happen to Dom.

"Are you always this rude?" Were the first words I heard when I convinced Dom to come with me to see Alec practice. I can't suppress my laughter when I see Nova's smirk fall

"I see you've gotten comfortable" I ran up to Alec and placed a kiss on his cheek. I hear Nova cough obnoxiously and I turn around to see her eyes glowing. "Careful Nova, the wolf is showing". I knew it was a bitchy move but Nova brought the worst out of everyone.

Nova grabs her things and mutters that we'd continue another day. When she leaves Alec questions "She's part wolf?" Dom nods and says he'd explain another day. Alec takes the hint and leaves it alone.

When I woke up this morning I felt lighter and it had to do with my mate who was still asleep, next to me. I don't know how but Alec convinced me late last night to sleep in his room. Something about a reward for doing good yesterday, but hey I wasn't gonna complain. The alarm next to me had woken me up from my slumber, it was still dark out and Alec had to get up early. Amidst all the new events he was still the Head pack warrior and was meeting the pack members for training every morning. Nudging him with my leg I laid back down ready to fall asleep again. The alarm went off again and he groaned. I could feel through or bond that he was getting annoyed but I was wrong when the alarm went up in flames. We both jump out of bed, the tiredness vanishing at the smell of smoke.

He turned to me "What do I do?"

"I don't know!", I put my hands to head trying to think of a solution when I remember what Kira said the first time she tried to get Alec to intentionally use his powers."Oh wait, try what Kira said. Think and imagine it fading down until it goes out"

He nods and gets closer to the fire. He places his hand over the fire sort of hovering it. He closes his eyes and the fire begins to move off the clock. Now it's in the palm of his hand slowly simmering down until there's nothing left but ashes.

"What the hell, this is awesome!" He was more infatuated with this while I let out a sigh of relief and jumped back into bed. I hear him clean up the mess of ashes that laid on the nightstand all over the now ruined alarm clock and the remaining in his hand. He places a kiss on my cheek. I mumble a goodbye and hear the door shut behind him. I was finally falling asleep when Dominic opened our mind link, Faye?

What, I seethe out, making sure my annoyance is clear. Alec told me what happe- Wait, are you seriously sleeping after that? I ignore his question not wanting to explain myself, Dom, do you need something?

Yeah, Nova wants to know if we can practice outside today. I lean over and grab my phone off the nightstand. I was expecting it to be earlier but I guess I had been asleep longer than I thought when Dominic called me, It was already 8:30.

Yeah, Alec's done at 10 well start then.

I'm dreading today's practice, something tells me it's not gonna be pleasant.
