Fuel to Fire

chapter fifteen

IT WAS TWO DAYS later when we finally heard back from Nova. She said she didn't want to explain anything over the phone and would be coming straight to the castle. My Aunt and Xavier were busing helping with pack business so it was just Alec, Dominic, Arden, And Kira. We all waited in one of the living room areas of the palace until she arrived. Kira was the first to sense her and pulled her into a hug. Kira was pretty much Nova's mother figure but that was a story for another day.

"I've got good and bad news. I thought I was being summoned because I was helping you guys and that I would be stripped of my magic. I had planned on keeping my mouth shut on what was happening here. The bad news is that Lennox ordered a truth serum on me and they pretty much know everything".

Dominic scoffed "That's the good news?" Pretty much everyone agreed with him, this information wasn't exactly lifting our heavy spirits.

"Let me finish", she rolled her eyes at Dominic. "Lennox agreed to let you live if you agreed to stop practicing".

Arden interrupted, "Sorry but that still doesn't sound good".

Alec spoke up as well, "Yeah, I'm not gonna stop. This is my legacy, I'm not gonna give it up to some random dude". After that pretty much everyone was arguing and claiming none of this was worth discussing.

"Guys, we need to listen to her. I'm sure she has more to say". She sighs in relief, "Thank you! At least someone here has a brain that functions," I was trying to make her look good but with her charming insults it didn't work. "I have a plan. We meet up with Lennox and trick him. Even though witch magic is different from Alec's it'll look the same in a spell. We can link him to my aunt Kira and when they test him, his blood will only show the wolf". We ask Kira if it was possible.

"This is a pretty good idea guys but if it backfires things will only get worse. Lennox is not someone you wanna mess with, he practices dark magic".

Nova scoffs, "Please, he's a little bitch. I can easily take him on if things get bad. So what do you guys say? Do we have a plan?"

Everyone shrugs and agrees but it ultimately lands on Alec and whether he would take this risk.

"Anything to get this pig out of our lives. His parents took mine, he doesn't deserve the satisfaction of taking the only piece of them I have left".

"So it's official, we're really gonna do this?" This came from Dom and his doubts were understandable.

Nova takes her phone out of her pocket and points to Alec, "Pretty boy here just settled it. We're taking Lennox Abner down".

For the rest of the day, Nova practiced linking spells on Kira in order to have the perfect one when the day came. I decided to sit in on one of Alec's training sessions with the pack warriors. We really hadn't had much alone time so I wanted to spend time with him as much as I could. Everyone but Alec was in wolf form. Everyone was in a pair of two and they practiced fighting techniques. I was sitting on a bench watching Alec yell at them to focus or critique their moves. He told them to take a break and sat next to me. He looped his arm in mine and laid his head on my shoulder. I could feel his breath on my neck.

"Wanna see something funny?" His warm breath tickled my neck; I was in haze because of him.

"Sure". He told me to look at Ardens wolf. He announced the break was over and everyone got back to the field. He opened our mind link, Watch.

Arden was fighting rough with the wolf she was partnered with and she was winning. Alec began to focus on the dirt in front of her wolf and it began to rumble. Slowly, it begins to rise and he uses his finger to guide in front of Arden. She begins to sneeze and the other wolf takes its opportunity to knock her to the grown. I try to hide my laugh by using my hand to cover my mouth but it is useless because I'm not the only one laughing. Poor thing, she wouldn't catch a break with Alec being able to control his powers. Her wolf huffs and runs off the changing rooms. Alec tells everyone that practice is over and that they're all dismissed. We both stand outside the changing rooms waiting for Arden. Our hands are intertwined and we're aimlessly pulling and leaning back and forward until he reaches forward and kisses me. It felt good to finally be able to be affectionate after this drama from the past couple of days.

"Ew, Alec seriously." He laughs and separates himself from me. I stand back and watch him try to hug her. She pushes him off and protests

"I'm not gonna accept your apology, Alec. You know I have allergies and you embarrassed me in front of my partner." She was pouting at the end of her sentence.

"C'mon, I'm your big brother. You kinda half to".

Arden keeps a serious face for about two seconds before she smiles and hugs him

"I'm so getting you back for that."

"I wouldn't expect anything less".

We walked back to the palace and on our way Dominic was leaving. I asked him where he was going and he said he was gonna go for a run. He jogs down the steps and stops in front of Arden. She says hi and he just stands there. She even goes as far as to wave a hand in front of his face to see if he was paying attention. Something had to be bothering him, he was a nice dude.. most of the time.

"Hi". I almost laughed when I noticed his cheeks were slowly gaining a pink tint. He quickly ran off into the woods.

Okay, that was weird. Arden shrugged him off and walked into the palace.

"I think Dominic has a crush on her".

Alec scoffed, "No way, plus he's not her type".

I playfully shoved him, "Oh yeah, what's her type?"

"Scrawny skinny dudes that she quotes "look sickly and like Timothee Chalamet"".

I frowned instantly realizing Dominic was the complete opposite, "Whatever".
