LIFE IN THE PALACE was calculated. My entire day was always laid out with some type of plan. The day was either filled with long meetings with the council and Public appearances or a full day of training and clothing fittings. The day was never dull, but I personally never felt connected to this. Not that I have a choice, I am the daughter of two Alphas who are sadly not here anymore. My mother and father left the world too soon and I was left in the care of my Aunt Beatrix at the age of 5. I know she loves me but she had a hard time expressing any emotions after my mother died. Losing her sister was tough but she knew she had to raise me to the perfect Alpha. I was now 24 and had been crowned from princess to Alpha of the Lupine Pack 3 weeks ago. The Lupine pack was kind of Royalty in the Werewolf society. Me being the only heir left, my aunt had to raise me a specific way. A queen was to be poised, collected and charming while an Alpha was to be a leader and to make the hard decisions. My morning had started with me waking up to the curtains in my room being opened and the sunrise slowly turning from pink to blue. The head maid, Clarissa spoke low and calming,

"Alpha. It is time to get up, the council expects you to be ready in an hour." Realizing what she said, I scrunch my nose in confusion. The sun was barely rising.

"A council meeting this early must mean they have important matters to discuss." I thought out loud as I got out of my comfortable gray covers and stepped into the bathroom. The meeting wasn't even scheduled in the calendar. It must be about the Lupus Trials. The lupus trials were arranged every time there was a new Alpha. It was my turn to choose a new beta, head warrior, and .. mate. The council strongly suggested I picked a mate instead of waiting for my destined one. Something about evaluating the status of my rank but it was no importance to me right now. Right now I had to focus on ruling my pack with the best of my abilities. A mate would just complicate things. My long black hair was curled into waves and my lips were painted a hued red. I wore a black sleeveless top that had an opening above my chest with a matching pair of pants and boots. My Lupus pack mark being shown off in the cutout. As I walked into the council room all of the members rose from their seats and bowed. Walking to my seat at the head of the long rectangular table I sat down and was presented with a coffee. As soon as I was seated council member Dominic began,

"Alpha, you must be wondering why we have called a meeting so early in the morning. Well we have some very important matters to discuss about the Lupus Trials and we must get started if we wish to finish before the evening".

I listened attentively as Dom spoke and took small slow sips of my coffee. Knowing my Auntie Beatrice was standing watching my every move.

"Very well let us begin".

As the meeting was coming to end, one of our older council members, my uncle Xavier stood up.

"If it is alright, I would like to make a suggestion to Ms.Lebonair". He looked around and once he saw everyone's approval he proceeded.

"There is a family of 6 living right off the beaches of the Shadowmoon pack that I request be invited to the trials."

My interests piqued and I questioned, "And your reason Councilman Xavier?" Normally I wouldn't use such formalities but Beatrice would kill me if I addressed my uncle informally in front of the members.

"All 4 children have ranked high in pack evaluations. Specifically the Oldest, Alec Hale. I think they would make for perfect candidates."

Trusting my uncle's intuition, I allow for the family to be invited for the trials. As one of the council members writes down their name and pack, I catch a small smirk and glimmer in my uncle's eyes but I brush it off. It seems he always has something up his sleeve.

As I walked down the halls of the palace, I heard my aunt calling my name. I stopped and turned around and waited in the spot until she caught up.

"You know Faye, I just wanna say you did excellent today. I know I can be hard on you at times, but it's worth it. When your mother held council meetings, not one of the council members paid her attention. Things are changing here". She was right. A female alpha was unheard of until my mother was born. I heard stories of how she broke werewolf stereotypes and broke the boundaries that allowed me to rule now.

"I know and I appreciate it Aunt Bea," I face towards her and take her hand in my mine.

"But these long council meetings are gonna be the death of me!" She laughed and continued to walk as we head into the dining room. The smell of warm bread and pasta took over her senses and she couldn't help but sigh. Finally. As all the council members began to walk in and take their seats, so did Beatrice and I. As we ate dinner, the laughs and echos of the fellow wolves filled up the dining room. I knew that I always had the support of my fellow wolves but I couldn't help but feel detached from them. I sat drinking my wine knowing fully well I wouldn't be able to rest well until my new pack members were chosen. Then I'd finally feel like I had accomplished my families legacy and made them proud.

Later in the night it was around 11 when I decided to go to bed. I put down the book I was reading and started settling in my covers. Wolves from all over the region were coming to the castle in 3 days and they would be staying here until the trials were over. I hoped I would find the right people to help me lead my pack and all the wolves under my reign. I had trouble sleeping and couldn't find a comfortable spot in my bed. I threw my arms up in desperation and sighed loudly. If only I knew a certain emerald-eyed wolf was feeling the same thing.
