Keith walked into the bridge, staring at the floor. He knew everyone was mad... even Lance...
"Guys I-" He looked up and saw the way everyone was looking at him, his ears immediately drooped. "I heard what happened... I'm sorry I wasn't there to help..."
"You keep saying you're sorry, but your actions say otherwise. Do you realize that your absence put the team in jeopardy?" Allura scolded, her voice dripping with venom. Keith knew he messed up, he put The Blade over the team. What he didn't expect was how mad everyone would be.
"And not just the team, the refugees as well!" Lance snapped, that was probably what affected Keith the most. His eyes began to water but he forced the tears back.
'Stay strong Keith...' He thought to himself.
"Matter of fact, the entire quadrant was in danger!" Pidge pointed out, and she was right. The tears in his golden eyes threatened to spill, but he held them back.
"This is not the way I wanted this to happen ...but, if there's a bright side to any of this it's that my absence allowed Shiro to reestablish his bond with the Black Lion, he can finally be the leader I was unable to be! I'm not meant to pilot the Black Lion...."
"Is that why you've been pulling away from us?" The princess asked.
Keith sighed, his ears dropping lower if that's even possible "Yeah ...I suppose that's part of it...."
Hunk looked at Keith questionably "Part of it? What's the other part?"
Keith shot Lance a sad look for a militick "The Blades have been making headway tracking the source of this new quintessence." He was partially lying, this wasn't the real reason "they've been able to piece together a large network of hidden supply lines that have been secretly transporting it for who knows how long, and there's good reason to believe it could lead us directly to Lotor. A mission is being planned to infiltrate the supply line, It could take weeks, maybe months to pull off, but if there is a chance ...we have-... I have to take it! I need to be on that mission" He sighed "Shiro, you are the rightful leader of this team, and you proved it today by reconnecting with the Black Lion...It was always meant to be yours"
Shiro smiled and put his hand on the galrans shoulder "Keith ...if this is what you feel is right, then we won't try to stop you, but just know that we're here for you whenever you need us."
The red paladin's ears perked up as the tears began to go away, he smiled "I know you are, and I can't tell you how much that means to me" They two men share a bro hug, leaving the others in tears.
"I can't be left out of this!" He cries and joins the hug, the others following suit.
"We're really gonna miss you!" The smallest paladin cried.
"Yeah, who am I gonna flirt with all the time?" Lance laughed
Allura smiled "I know you'll make us proud"
Keith left the room, packed his stuff and made his way to the pods, he set one up and was about to go inside it when he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"So you're just going to leave?!" It was Lance.
"Lance... I told you I'm not meant to be a Paladin, I'm sorry"
"How could you say that? Do you not care about everyone else's feelings? About my feelings?! You can't just leave!"
"Everyone else is fine with it, you seemed to be too but... guess I was wrong" Keith's ears drooped slightly
"Yeah, I'm pretty pissed! What about everything we have?! Are you just gonna throw it all away?!" Tears were now falling down the Cuban boy's face.
"Lance I-"
"DON'T EVEN TRY TO APOLOGIZE! YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYONE'S FEELING EXCEPT YOUR OWN!" That was it. Keith had had enough.
"Really?! I'm the one who doesn't care about how people feel?! YOU THINK I'M HAPPY WHEN YOU GIVE UP GOING TO BED WITH ME TO HANG OUT WITH PIDGE AND HUNK?! YOU THINK I DON'T FEEL HORRIBLE WHEN I MESS UP WHEN WE'RE IN A BATTLE AND I GET SCOLDED?! YOU THINK I DON'T FEEL LONELY WHEN YOU LEAVE CUDDLING TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES?! AND YOU CALL ME THE INCONSIDERATE ONE?!"
"Keith I had no idea...."

"YOU'RE THE REASON WHY I'M LEAVING! I DON'T DESERVE THIS! I'M DONE!" Keith's expression was a mix of pain, fear, anger, relief, and sadness. Tears flowing, not seeming to find an end. Lance on the other hand had a face of pure guilt and terror, he'd never heard Keith this angry and serious... he couldn't move.
