"I really don't want to do this, mum. I'm...I'm scared.."
Mary Beth sighed as she stroked her daughter's dark brown hair. They sat in the hospital, waiting for her appointment. Dr Fields had grown concerned after the part where Natalie began to shake and contort violently on the floor. Natalie couldn't remember anything. But the muffled cries of the therapist who tried to help her. It was a disastrous therapy meeting and honestly, everything couldn't get any worse.
She was shaking and trembling as if demon had made it's way into her soul. And her eyes rolled to the back of her head. Dr Fields was on the verge of frightened tears.
But it was then, clarified that Natalie had severe anxiety problems. And that issue back at Dr Fields's office, was caused by her brain overheating. Mary Beth was horrified when the doctor explained it to her. And Natalie was sure, that she had scarred Dr Fields, just as badly.
"I'm sorry, honey. But this is the only way we can see if those medical drugs can help.." Mary sighed. "But we'll never know until we find out, Natalie."
"I know, mum. But...I swear I heard a voice, back there.."
The mother really didn't want to accept the fact, that Natalie was hearing voices now. She was aware that she had been through a lot, recently. But jesus, what the hell was happening?
"I'm really sorry...This is all my fault, isn't it?" The teen asked, her eyes full with tears. "Why can't I just move on?"
"No, Natalie, this isn't your fault.." Mary assured. "I guess, it was just a bad idea taking you there. That didn't help you at all.."
Natalie sniffled and frantically wiped away her tears. It had been a while, since she could have a good cry. She knew that it was bad, repressing everything inside. She missed Toby a lot too. His soft, brown hair. And his wide, chocolatey eyes. The memory of him tugged at her, relentlessly. But she quietly smiled to herself, at the memory.
After about thirty minutes, a doctor finally walked towards Mary and Natalie.
"Um, excuse me, are you Natalie Ouellette?" The man asked.
Mary smiled and nodded. "Yes, I'm Mary Ouellette, Natalie's mother. And we're here for her appointment...the one with the medical drugs. I was told to give this to you.." The mother lowered her voice as she handed him, a few papers.
Natalie sighed, playing with her hair for a bit. She stared at the art work and coffee tables with boring magizines resting on them.
"Alright, thank you, Miss Ouellette. Natalie?" The doctor asked, exchanging a hand to the brunette. "I know you'll be nervous, but no need to worry. The drugs are just meant to ease any bad chemicals flowing in your brain. It'll be a pretty long surgery, but you'll be out of this place in a jiffy." The man smiled. "And hopefully, it can make you feel a lot better.."
"Yes, dear. Just try to relax, okay?" Mary added, lovingly stroking Natalie's hair in comfort.
"O-Okay.." Natalie stammered timidly.
"Alright, follow me, dear." The doctor instructed as he started to lead Natalie through a couple of doors until they reached a clear hospital hallway. Secretly, Natalie had grown scared of hospitals hallways. Ever since, her last visit to a hospital. Some people die here, Natalie thought, quietly following the tall doctor. The thought frightened her.
"Okay, so this will be a pretty risky surgery, Natalie.." The man said, while holding a clipboard. "But try to stay calm as possible, ok?"
Natalie just nodded. She was scared out of her mind, but this was the only way. She silently prayed to herself. She really didn't want to die.
