Klaire's POV:

He led me out the room still hand in hand down a set of stairs a few feet away from the double doors leading out. He laughed, a full, happy laugh and I looked over at him. It sounded so nice to hear him laugh and not chuckle like he was about humiliate me.

"What?" I couldn't help but smile with him. He blue eyes shone down at me with happiness and something else I couldn't describe.

"You're literally in awe with everything right now." He said and pulled me close as we got down at the stairs and wrapped an arm around my waist. I look at his arm around me and smile lightly when it felt nice, it felt natural.

I sigh gently as we begin to walk down the halls, passing doors and a few pictures. Where was he taking me?

"It's a surprise." He winked. We walked into a few rooms before we came to a balcony where the sun was setting. I glanced over at Xavier, not Jasper. Can he walk in the sun?

He smirked playfully and stood directly into the sunlight which had me curious. Was he mad? Why wasn't he burning? Does it take a while before it kicks in?

"Perks of being a royal." He said and grabbed my hand and led me to the sun as well. It was nice to feel the warmth seep into my cold skin and warm me up. He took me to the love-seat which he seemed way too small for and made me sit down.

I took a moment before speaking, "so all royals can stay in the sun?" I asked.

"Well, we can, but it hurts after too long." He says and I nodded. I'm learning more about vampires each day.

I looked out into the scenery in front of me and gasped, it was beautiful. It was like everything you'd read in the books of royal places with a fountain below us and freshly cut hedges leading off to the main road and a path where one lead to the car park area and the other to another large sitting area with a hot tub and pool. This place was beautiful.

His hands found mine again and our fingers interlocked together. Why was he being so nice with me?

"I already told you, I'm not him." He spoke gently and I didn't realise he was pressing his face to the side of mine, but instead of finding it either scary or arousing, I found it calming and peaceful. "Jasper lost his humanity a long time ago, he doesn't feel anything, the only thing he likes is death and destruction."

I lean my head to his as I hear his words, I didn't have to speak because he knew what I was thinking and that gave me a peace of mind. But why? I thought.

He sighed, hearing me. "Something terrible happened to us both a long time ago. It- It changed both of us, I tried to tell him to hang in there and move on but he just didn't listen and he turned his emotions off."

I look at him, sensing it had something to do with the box from earlier for some reason. "What happened?" I whispered and moved my hands to touch the box still in his jacket, "what's in the box?"
