In a regular black, silk nighty---she was laying in bed, staring up at the ceiling. She had a hand plastered to her tummy and unconsciously she was rubbing the surface gently with her fingertips as she was in space---not even paying attention to any of her surroundings.
It wasn't so late at night; her parents weren't home yet and she knew she couldn't really count on Lindsey coming back since she knew him to have all of his things packed away and at the hotel since he was there so frequently in the last couple of days.
When she got back to the comfort of her parents' house, she washed her face of all of her makeup and she slipped into some comfier clothing so she could rest because to go with her natural fatigue, she had a headache and she wanted to sleep. But as soon as she got into bed, her mind started wandering and she was so wrapped up in the arguement she had with him. There were things she wished highly she could have taken back just because she didn't mean to say a lot of those things---she knew there were ways she could have let him down easier and maybe the next day they could have talked about it clearly, but she overreacted and she was more than aware. She felt so awful that it wouldn't leave her mind long enough for her to fall asleep. It was the word marriage that threw her so off simply because she had yet to tell him about the baby---it wasn't that they were moving so fast, but that she was behind on telling him.
The night sky was brightened with the moonlight in which seeped into the dark bedroom through the window that was wide open since she enjoyed the fresh air at night even if it was chilly, but lately she was having hot flashes she had never endured before and there were moments she wanted to rip her skin off.
In the morning, the Friday they left, Stevie had her latest check up and then was when they were able to hear the heartbeat of the baby for the first time and that certainly made it more real even if she could feel everything about motherhood inching toward her little by little.
Pretty soon, her anxious thoughts were interrupted by a mild knock filling the door.
She turned from her side and she looked over, just to see her mother opening the door gently.
"Hey," she sat up, resting her back against the headboard to let her know she was awake.
"I had a feeling you'd be up," Barbara walked in and shut the door behind herself. "Is this where you ran off to?"
She kind of nodded, never having meant to ditch the wedding.
"Anything to dodge the bouquet toss, right?" she smirked as she took a seat right at the edge of the bed and she leaned in close to give her daughter her full attention.
Smiling lightly, "Did I miss a lot?" she asked.
"No... It really was toward the end, but they forgot to do the bouquet toss and that's when everybody was looking for you, however, word quickly spread that you got into some sort of argument with the guitarist of the band."
Sighing to herself, she shook her head and she brought a hand up while she leaned into her mother. "I didn't mean to fight with him at all, mom, I didn't. I was gonna tell him about the baby and then I realized how drunk he was so I figured I'd wait and tell him tomorrow, but... I got so enraged when I realized how he and the band were totally loaded and then he asked me to marry him."
The older woman stayed quiet, understanding her daughter very much because she was aware of her views and how a question as simple as that one would cause her to fly off the handle bars.
"Y'know, he and I play around a lot with each other about really stupid things and we make fun of each other. Hell, one of our first dates, he and I were talking about kids and he made a joke asking if I wanted one with him. Who knew that was going to bite me in ass," she rolled her eyes. "The point is, he could have very well been joking about it through his slur, but I definitely overreacted. I just don't know what to do right now."
