-1- Shock

Hi there, my name is Wang Yibo and I turned eighteen years old a month ago. I belong to the Uniq music group and have been for two years. Thanks to our hard work, constant training and great management, we have been able to enjoy a large number of fans worldwide. Of course most of them are female.

Our group consists of five members, there is me, then there is Kim Sungjoo, Cho Seungyoun, Li Wenhan and Zhou Yixuan and together we are Uniq. Although our group is made up of Chinese and Koreans, we are called a KPop band. This is probably because we are starting our career as a music group in Korea. But, if you want to know more about it, use the search engine of your trust.

A month ago our manager informed us that there will be an international competition soon. It will be held in Beijing/ China, and ten different music groups from five countries will participate. Each of the five countries is sending one male group and one female group to the competition.

The winners of the competition will receive 100,000 yen and will be allowed to present the year-end show live.

Nothing is known about the other bands so far, they want to keep it common until the big opening show and only then they want to announce who will be there. I am already very curious.

And since it is known that we are taking a part in the competition, our coaches are even more merciless than usual. They want us to win. And that is exactly what we want. We are not going to fly to China and participate in a competition for ten weeks and then fly home as losers. Losing is not an option!

I've always been like this. If it was any kind of contest, competition or challenge, I had to win! And in order to win, I have always given everything. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have been able to join a music group when I was so young.

By the way, we landed here in Beijing two hours ago. It's hard to believe that after two years I'm back in my home country and will compete for Korea of all places.

Our coaches are already in the basement of the hotel, where they kindly created a rehearsal room for us. I bet the two of them are already trampling, because once again we didn't unpack fast enough and started rehearsing.

At the moment I'm actually waiting for Seungyoun, he just wanted to take a shower, but that was twenty minutes ago now. If he doesn't come soon, I'll go down alone.

After another ten minutes Seungyoun is finally finished and we can go downstairs. Via the staircase we run down into the basement. And we haven't even reached the end of the stairs when we hear our dance trainer screaming.

Oh man, any bet, as he is today, we get extra laps on top of a sermon about punctuality and ambition.

After more than four hours of training and several extra rounds, our choreography sits and now it goes on, two hours of vocal training. I wonder if the other music groups train as hard as we do?

When we are finally done with our vocal training, we run up the seven floors to our hotel rooms. Seungyoun and I share one room, the other three of us share one room as well.

Freshly showered and very hungry we make our way down to the hotel's own restaurant. But before we can eat, our manager explains the daily routine of tomorrow to us once more.

First some recordings during the training, then a short interview. After the lunch we will be picked up and brought to the studio, where we have half an hour for the rehearsal. Then it's time for the mask, make-up and hair styling, then change the clothes and wait for the performance.

The show starts at 8 pm and ends about 11 pm. It will be a long day again. But slowly we are getting used to it.

In the studio

Half an hour ago we finished everything and are now waiting for the show to start. Even though we are already used to big gigs, we are still very nervous. Which is why Li Wenhan is probably the third time in the toilet since we arrived here.

"Yibo, you won't believe who I just saw." Says Li Wenhan completely out of breath when he came back into our room.

"I don't really care right now." I reply. I'm trying to concentrate on the gig and I don't need a distraction right now.

"I'm pretty sure you'll be interested, though." So he says.

"Not now. Tell me after the show, OK? I don't have the nerve for this now."

"Whatever you say. But don't come crying to me afterwards, because I didn't tell you before."

"Don't worry, I won't."

At exactly 8 pm the TV in our room turned on automatically and showed the live broadcast of the show.

"Welcome to our very first international competition, where ten music groups from five different countries compete and want to prove that they are the best. But only one music group can win at the end and will be rewarded with 100,000 yen and they will be able to host the biggest event of the year live. Let's start with the first music group, welcome them with me..."

One music group after the other is introduced and then takes a seat on the huge stage. First the women's groups were introduced and then the men's groups. One of the staff members just took us out of our room and brought us backstage. Our microphones were checked again and now we are going right out on stage as group number 9.

"And now we come to one of the most famous groups of musicians in our competition. They have already won many prizes and broken thousands of hearts. Their statement is short, but therefore all the more meaningful ~we will win~. Now, say hello to Korea's favorite band, Uniq."

We go out on the big stage and the present fans scream like crazy. Some of the female fans are crying with joy. The host introduces us by our names, shows our video of the rehearsals and the interview. Then he asks us questions like: "When is your next album coming out? Are you planning a longer tour and do you all have girlfriends?"

And of all people, he asks me about girls. I just shake my head and say, "No. I'm sorry, we don't have time for that." A sentence that our manager gave us. The truth should remain a secret, he said and warned us not to say anything but this one sentence.

Now if you're wondering why I tell everything so dry and monotonous, I'll tell you just this much. My head is already in the competition and completely focused on it. Maybe I am obsessed with winning.

After we've introduced ourselves, we' re going to take our seats. We even had this to rehearse several times today, as if we didn't know how to sit down.

The host grins and then says: "And now we are coming to a still very new music group. It consists of nine members and is called XNINE. Although they have only recently released their first song, they feel confident enough to take part in this competition. They say ~We want to have fun and learn something new here~. Well, let's give them a warm welcome."

The group XNINE comes up on stage and my heart almost stops... that's HIM! I'm in shock!
