Winning is everything, that has always been the motto of Wang Yibo. And the new International Competition is a perfect opportunity for him to prove once again that he is the absolute winner.
But what if, his secret crush is one of his opponents?
Doe...
Today is Wednesday and in just two days we all have to be on stage and perform our duets. The problem is, none of us have really practiced yet. And today, when we could hardly move anyway, because every muscle really hurts, we have to climb mountains.
So we've been sitting in the living room since early morning waiting for the climber. We take turns practicing our songs. Which unfortunately doesn't work very well if someone always calls in between where a tone was wrong or that the lyrics are wrong.
At some point Zhan was so angry by the heckling of Wooseok and Seungyoun that he threw the folder with the lyrics at them and hit Seungyoun on the head. "One more sound and I'll tear you apart." Zhan yelled to Seungyoun, who just tried to correct the text again.
Wooseok took the sheet with the lyrics, read it through and then showed it to Seungyoun. And Seungyoun's face turned bright red. "Ah, I'm sorry, Zhan, it seems I was wrong."
If we were in the other wooden house, we would not only have more space, but also the rehearsal room. But this way we didn't have much choice, except the bedroom, the bathroom or the shed.
And we couldn't really be enthusiastic about any of the other possibilities.
When the doorbell rang, Zhan went to open it. An icy wind came into the house as Zhan opened the door. It was the climber who came half an hour earlier. Zhan let him into the house and I immediately noticed the white stuff on his clothes. "Is it snowing?" I'm asking, although it's unnecessary.
"Yes, unfortunately. But first of all, hello, I'm Jin Ling, the climber. And I'm already here because I have to tell you that we can't go mountain climbing. It is 4 degrees below zero and it is snowing like crazy. Have they informed you that there will be a snowstorm?"
We stared at each other and the mountaineer kept saying: "I see, so don't. It looks like winter is coming back again, only briefly but very violently. The inhabitants of this area have been informed about it. That means you should prepare yourselves. Food, water, candles and enough wood. And you should close all windows with shutters to protect them."
But because we were all overstrained, after all we are still young, the climber helped us. He barricaded the windows, fetched logs with Seungyoun and me and went through the food with Zhan.
He also gave us a radio from his car in case there was an emergency. And then after an hour and a half in total, he was gone again.
So we were forced to stay in the hut. For us it was a stroke of luck, because that way we could rest ourselves and our bodies and practice our performances. Zhan dragged me upstairs into the bedroom with the words, "I won't sing another line unless we rehearse amongst ourselves."
We were not worried about the impending blizzard. We were well prepared and could devote ourselves relaxed to our rehearsals.
At lunchtime Zhan and I went back to the living area to join the others. Zhan wanted to start cooking and I promised to help him. We were clarifying with the others what we wanted to eat when it suddenly got dark.
The electricity was gone. The shutters rattled and the wind howled loudly around the house. It sounded eerie. The only light we had at that moment was the fire in the fireplace, which started to dance a little back and forth.
Zhan secured the fireplace while the rest of us put up the candles we had prepared earlier. "Luckily, the stove is powered by fire." I said relieved, until I saw Zhan's face.
He looked at me questioningly and then said, "You forgot to bring in wood for the stove."
Seungyoun and I are cursing. We put on our jackets and shoes and went to collect more wood. But as soon as we opened the door, we understood why the climber was so worried.
It was bitterly cold, the snowfall was so heavy that nothing could be seen and the wind whipped the wet snowflakes so hard into our faces that it hurt. And before we even took a step out the door, Zhan pulled us back and closed the door again.
"You've taken leave of your senses. The climber told us not to go out no matter what." He scolded us.
Zhan went and found the smallest pieces of wood from the stack for the fireplace and put them in the stove. "That should be enough for now. At least until we finish cooking." Zhan said.
I went to him to help him and a new problem arose. The water pump was not working. So Seungyoun and Wooseok went to get water from the bathroom. It's the only place with running water coming from a faucet. But unfortunately, no water came from there either.
So Zhan took two of the big water bottles and started cooking while I handed him the sliced vegetables one by one. And because we had no electricity, we couldn't turn on the rice cooker. So Zhan had to boil it in the pot. "They'd better not send us to a place like that again." Bitched Zhan while he was at the stove.
In the afternoon we all sat in front of the fireplace. And although he heated the hut well, it still felt cold. We sang any song we could think of together. Played cards and told us scary stories when there was a loud bang outside.
"That was a car." Said Zhan startled, jumped up and ran for the door. He opened it a crack and then called us to him. "You see? There' s light coming from a car. I think the driver had an accident. We have to help him or her."
Quickly we got dressed. We pulled the hoods of our jackets up to the eyes and our scarves up to the nose. Then we went outside, hand in hand. We walked about ten meters when we arrived at the car that had hit a tree.
There was a driver in the car who was obviously injured. I ripped open the door and Zhan helped the woman out of her car. We brought her to our cabin and laid her on the sofa where Wooseok looked at her wounds and gave her temporary care.
We called for help over the radio, but no one answered. So much for that.
When the woman slowly regained consciousness, she told us that she saw something running across the road, probably an animal, and tried to avoid it. She lost control of her vehicle in the process. The doctor, who was actually on her way to see a patient in labour, now needs a doctor herself.
Wooseok and Seungyoun kept trying to use the radio while Zhan and I took care of the doctor. And finally, after more than two hours, someone answered the radio and promised to send someone as soon as possible.
It took another hour for an ambulance to come and then they took the doctor away. And one of the paramedics knew my Zhan. They went to the same high school. And not only that, they had been in the same class.
I had just come from the kitchen where I was getting a bottle of water when I heard the paramedic ask Zhan a question as he was leaving. "How will you explain this to Yibo? I mean about the agreement?"
Zhan said, "I want to talk to my parents. There must be a way out of this."
What the hell is Zhan hiding from me? What agreement?
After the paramedics left, I take Zhan by the hand and go into the bedroom with him. "What was that guy talking about? What agreement? Is there anything you might want to tell me?"
"My parents and I made an agreement that I would only stay in show business until I turned 22 and then join my parents' company. That's why I'm also studying biotechnology. I could have chosen anything else. But I follow my parents.
I can't believe what Zhan just said. Why would he try so hard to get into show business if he only wants to stay in it for four years?
