NW: VIII. Laurent's Failure

[Bella's POV]

/Hey this is Olivia Holt's phone, leave a message on the beep\

Hearing Olivia's voicemail for the 5th time this week I sighed annoyingly. First Edward gone, Alice won't answer, and now Jacob practically hating me, but Olivia missing my calls is not something I'm used to. I pressed the button to ring a voice message to her now

"Hey Olivia, it's me Bella. I was uhm hoping you'd come visit me again soon. I don't know how long your 'hike' is, but when you come back, can you please come see me. It's about Jake, I think I've said something wrong so just uhm...call me back soon.."

Jacob telling me to go away is the last thing I needed, losing a bestfriend tears my heart even more. Why do the people we love always leaves? The answer is just hidden underneath that I refused to look at.

But one thing is clear, I wished for everything to return the way it was, yet there's no way around it and nothing good comes easily.

The past when Edward and I were so happy together without a care of the world, Jacob staying by my side like the bestfriend I always looked up to. Olivia being herself like my very own guardian angel more like everyone's guardian angel.

I wanted to see and visit old places that Edward and I used to go, starting from the open field of grass filled with beautiful flowers, but when I came to visit it, the area is now a bleak dessert-like open field. My heart aches in pain that I can't handle so I kneeled down taking few breaths to calm myself.

But a sound of rustling leaves cracked in the same area as me. I looked up to find Laurent standing there

He greeted me first "Bella" smirking to find me here alone.

I quickly stood up "Laurent" quite shock to see him here.

"I didn't expect to find you here. I went to visit the Cullens but the house is empty. I'm suprised they left you behind, but what of your other friend? Weren't you two sort of......pets of theirs?" he slowly circles around me

"You can say that" I broke eye contact with him for a second out of nervousness, but I refused to give him the satisfaction on my fear.

[A/n: Edward's dialogue is with parenthesis]

"Do the Cullens visit often?" he quizzed

Then ghost Edward showed up by my side saying (Lie)

Nodding but I struggled to find my voice for the moment

"Yeah...absolutely.. all the time"

I can see Laurent fully noticing my tone yet said nothing. (Lie better) ghost Edward scolded

"I'll tell them that you stopped by. But I probably shouldn't cause Edward and Olivia are pretty protective" I said recovering back

He smirked "But he's far away isn't he, so is the other one"

I angrily snapped "Why are you here?"

Laurent stopped circling me for a moment "I came as a favor to Victoria, she asked me to see if you and your friend were still protected by the Cullens, Victoria feels fair only to kill Edward's mate and Carlisle's mate given they killed hers. An eye for an eye" he sneered

Turning to ghost Edward, sensing my trouble. (Threaten him!)

"Edward know who'd did it and he'd come after you. Olivia does not take second thoughts on who to kill!" I chided at the vampire with dreads

"I don't think they will. After all, how much could you mean to them when they left you here unprotected" now that hit a core inside me, Laurent used my silence to continue speaking he hung his head low for awhile
