Mia woke up to the usual beep of her phone. "It should be Ed. It's time that he took off the flight", she thought to herself. But the message was not his usual 'I Love You' before the taking off the flight. She read the message. It stopped her right in her tracks. The phone fell out of her hand and it shattered into a thousands of pieces.
Days bled into years.
It's been two years since Mia read the devastating news of Ed's missing flight. She had never felt so let down in all her life. Since she had started dating Ed everything fell into its right place. A life without him was what she dreaded. She couldn't even imagine how she lived for two years without even listening to the whispered you are my girl from Ed.
They have been dating for two years straight before the missing of his flight. Every corner she turned into she saw Ed's light blue sparkling eyes. The soft breeze made her hear Ed's whispered I Love yous. It was all just a dream to her now. She missed him so much that she can't even think about moving on with someone else. She would have at least lost twenty pounds since she last saw him. Her eyes were blank. Her face never bloomed again.
She remembered the first time she met Ed like it was just yesterday. Her rushed walk to the airport stopped her in her tracks when she knocked nose first into a person. She fell back to be woken up to look at a couple of the lightest blue eyes she had ever seen. Her stomach did a somersault. "Are you alright?" the eyes asked her. She had forgot her words to whisper her answer back. After much time he gave her a smile and went away. She was on her feet again. She didn't even know that the perfect gentleman had stood her up. In a dreamy haze she sauntered through the process and walked into the flight. It was a while after the taking off that she saw the perfect gentleman walk down the aisle. He was the first pilot of the aircraft. She was dumbstruck. Her manners came back to her. "Thanks for helping me," she said out loud to him. He turned to look back. The others were also looking at her giving her that "is this girl stupid?" look. She didn't care. She was looking forward to that light blue eyes smile. He waited. Then his face broke into a sweet smile. He nodded and went to the cockpit. Mia fell back to her seat. He felt like a princess.
After that brief encounter they bumped into each other again and they started dating.
Mia came back to reality as she knocked on the Missing Men Agency's door. She had knocked that door several times for the past years. Her friend came out and pulled Mia aside. "I am so sorry Mia. We did everything we can, but we can't find him. He would have died. It's time that you move on". Shelly patted her on the back and went away. Two large tear drops blotted Mia's vision. She cried her heart out. This was not the information that she was looking forward to.
She found herself in her room. Her legs would have brought her there. She can't remember walking out of the agency. She closed her eyes. Ed's laughing loving face didn't pop up in her mind like it usually does. She went through their photos.
Her ring on her left hand shouted the unspoken fears of her future. She had been his fiancée only for a day. On the next day he had flown away. She knew something was wrong when she didn't receive his usual I love you message before the returning flight's takeoff.
She spent some days with her parents. They always said her to get a change of scene. It was time to have a change. She packed her bags and went to Ireland. They had planned to visit Ireland later in that year. It was time that she travelled alone and faced the reality bravely. That would make Ed feel proud of her.
Her flight was smooth. It was the first time that she left London after Ed's missing. How she dreamed that the flight would crash and bring her back Ed, but it never happened.
Ireland welcomed her with open hands. She couldn't even look at a couple walk hand in hand without her fighting back tears. She was having an evening walk when she saw something that stopped her right in her tracks. No. It couldn't be. Her heart beat faster. Blood rushed through her body. It can't be Ed. He was missing. She never thought of meeting him here, in Ireland, of all the places in Ireland. She thought back. Yes, it was Ireland where he went missing. So is it him or is it not him. Her legs took her towards him. Her hands reached forwards to touch him. He was bent towards something. He stood and turned back. She was nose to nose with this man. Yes, it was Ed. There was no mistake in his light blue eyes. Or the way his lips curled back whenever he smiled.
