As the sun rose from above the mountain and spread its warmth to the city, he and she woke up from the two different corners. He remembered her. She checked her phone to check whether he had texted at least last night. Nope. He put the phone away as the sad reality of thinking that she had forgotten him sunk in to his mind. She shut her eyes tight as to stop the burning sensation behind her eye lids and moved out as to stop thinking about him.

His throat struck. As he saw the breakfast his sister had prepared for him. It was her favorite food. He couldn't eat anymore. Since the tearful goodbye she couldn't eat her favorite meal anymore as she always remembered how he had teased her about being a child in heart and eating food that was little kids' favorites. As the painful memory said hi to her the tear, she had held hard to not to spill failed her attempt and beat her to it. As her memory filled with his smile, she stood unable to eat anymore. He skipped breakfast.

It has been just a week. But it still seems like it has been forever. After departing on their different ways, they both had missed each other. They've been best friends for four years and daily they had talked with each other. But the time was against them and had sent them on their different paths. He had always cared for her. She had always been there for him. It seemed like forever to him. She wondered whether he still cared for her the way he did.

Seconds turned to hours and both he and she went on their activities. A sudden urgent appointment made him stop his work in half and go to the beach. Trying in vainly to stop thinking about him she gave up on trying to put a smile on her face and thought of going to the beach to relax her mind from her drifting thoughts. After learning about his new girlfriend everyday was living hell for her.

As they neared the beach their hearts beat faster. He thought the reason for it. She gave up on trying to find a reason for it. As she saw the bench that they both have used to hang around her eyes watered again. As his eyes fell on the bench his heart felt squeezed. They both looked at it and up at the same time.

"She is beautiful. She looks better than before" his mind rang a bell on his ear.

She couldn't stop staring at him.

Unblinkingly they moved forwards.

"How are you?"

"How is your new girlfriend?"

They both asked at the same time.

His already broken heart shouted to not to be pricked anymore. He would have picked her over any girl he was with. And obviously just as before she was blind for the fact that his heart had opened for her. He looked down. His heart was pained. Broken beyond being able to be mended.

She was looking at him. His silence said the answer to her, she hoped not to hear. He is probably happy with his new girlfriend now. Her heart ached. Ached for a bit of love from him. Ached for not to be ignored by him. Her heart needed attention. She didn't know when will her heart belong to someone. She looked down trying to hide her burning eyes.

A drop of tear escaped his eyes. He didn't want to pain her heart by looking at her with his tear-filled eyes. He just couldn't pain her heart anymore. He can't even stop crying. Tears fell loud and fast to his t-shirt. He spends silent tears. He couldn't even look at her without crying.

She shut her eyes tight. That ought to do it. It was ought to stop the prickly feel in her eyes. He is probably thinking of his girlfriend now. She didn't want to see his smile that usually spreads his face as the memory of his girlfriend fills his mind. So, she kept her eyes shut tightly. Her heart pained as she realized that still he hadn't looked up. He couldn't even look at her.

Finally, they both looked up with clear eyes. Words left his mouth.

"I miss you" his words were stabs to her heart.

"He should have said it to his girlfriend. Not me" she thought. He didn't really mean it.

He looked into her eyes.

"I mean it" he thought.

"He doesn't" she thought.

She had been his love. Always. But he never said it aloud. She had been in his heart for the past four years. He didn't know how she thought about it.

As his eyes showed love it made her realize. The truth. He loves his new girlfriend. Her heart was broken beyond being able to be mended. They didn't have anything more to say to each other. She knew that he never felt the way she did. For the past four years he had been blind to that fact. He knew everything about her except for what her heart truly desired.

As he opened his hands for her, she moved to him, at the same time. She hugged him tightly. She was already missing the warmth of his hands thinking that it will be the last time, as her mind said that it will be the last time of him holding her. He held her tightly thinking that at least at that moment she will realize how he really felt about her. He held her tightly for the last time. He was already missing her in his arms. She listened to his heart beat as her head rested on his chest. She felt saddened thinking that he was just thinking of it as a friendly hug.

They departed. Again. As their steps took them further and further away from each other their hearts ached for each other. They wanted to hold each other forever in their arms. They wanted to look into the others eyes forever. They wanted to be able to tell the world how they really felt. They wanted to let others know that they didn't want to be just best friends anymore. They want the whole world to realize the truth. They wanted to shout to the whole world and say their true feelings.

They skipped their next activities for the day and went home with heavily pained hears. Both the hearts were pained beyond measure. Their hearts felt crushed and squeezed. They both cried till their eyes were not left with any tears. He took a deep breath and went to bed. She wiped her eyes and leaned on the pillow. As the saddened reality dawned on both of them at the same time a tear escaped their eyes again.

"I lost her" he thought.

"I love him" she thought.
