-Percy-

No way. No way in hell. It couldn't be her. After so friggin' long she turns up. She never called, she never got in touch, ever. And I had no clue where she was.

Then it dawned on me, after years of hoping, missing, waiting, longing, I was mad. Mad at her. We were best friends, once, right?

The bell saved me. Dozens of heads pushed around trying to get to class. I hid. Cowardly? Totally. But hey, I was lost in the crowd and I was thankful. I definitely wasn't ready for this. Well, I was safe till math, at least.

By which time I'd calmed down. Mostly.

Course, she came and sat next to me. Just my luck, right?

"Hey Percy." She said, forcing the calmness in her voice, but I could hear the shakiness.

I didn't bother answering. The last thing I needed was another school to be kicked out of for punching someone. And well, a female. Not to be sexist or anything, but if my mother found out I hurt a woman, she'd go ballistic. I support her and all, with the equality movement that she'd started, but that woman got extremely scary at times. She's all about women being too amazing to be hurt by anyone.

"Percy. That is you, right?" Annabeth asked.

I nodded, but still didn't say anything.

Annabeth persisted, "Why you ignoring me? I get that we have't you know..."

"Haven't what? Spoken in ten years the most of which I spent worrying?" I snapped back.

I wasn't looking but I swear, I could imagine her nostrils flaring and the face turning red as she replied back, "It wasn't my fault!" She cried.

"Gods, Annabeth, you sound like an eight year old."

She scowled and muttered something about me being an ass.

Math went on, and it felt like forever. When I was done planning the murder of a mystery person, who at that moment seemed to have blond hair and grey eyes, I caught the last few words that our evil math teacher, Mrs Dodds was saying. "—op Quiz right now, anyone below a C minus gets a tutor.""

Honestly, I could not have had a better day, right?

I tried, I really tried the stupid quiz but I couldn't get past congo something about triangles. Screw triangles. I could see Annabeth's brow scrunched up, probably trying to do some math genius-y stuff in her head. Even in elementary school, she had been really good at math. Like when I had mastered the art of counting dots on a lady bug, she could subtract stuff.

Mrs Dodds gave us a break while she finished checking. Annabeth turned to me with gritted teeth and said, "You know, we're gonna have to solve this sooner or later."

"Later sounds good." I replied back cooly.

She muttered a few more curses. Woah, that girl could cuss.

Mrs Dodds went on to give them out. I got mine, with an F. Woo hoo? I hope the tutor was some nice helpful math lover. More than that, I prayed it wouldn't be Annabeth.

She smirked at me as I passed with the big red 'F' on my paper. I scowled back at her. Then I noticed Mrs Dodds eyes at me an wisely shut up for the rest on the lesson.

As I was leaving, making sure to leave as soon as I could, so that Annabeth couldn't find me, Mrs Dodds called.

"Honey! Wait back please. You know your grade."

Ugh. I was hoping she'd forget. Or at least not notice me.

I stayed back and watched everyone leave. Annabeth was in the crowd, but Mrs Dodds pulled her back. "That was an exceptional quiz darling."

"Thanks." She mumbled.

"Now I want you to tutor Percy here."

Her eyes widened, as did mine. "NO!" we both yelled. My reaction was a bit slower, so you could count mine as a very loud echo?

But seriously, this could not be happening. I could not be stuck with her. I hated her so much.

"Now now..." Mrs Dodds continued. "You two don't have a choice so deal with it." She said as she walked out of the room.

And I followed. But Annabeth yelled. Really loud. Like, as loud as in to get the whole hallway's attention. "PERCY JACKSON!" she screamed.

I lost it. "WHAT!" I yelled back.

"MOVE ON! IT WASN'T MY FAULT!"

There she went again. I don't know what I was thinking but I aimed to punch her. Worst decision ever.

Her stare hardened and her eyes became cold. She said quietly, but loud enough. "Bring it on, Jackson."

I scowled at her before aiming another blow at her. This time, she caught my fist and swung me around. Oh great. So I'd been judo flipped by her in less than a minute.

I could hear the loud screaming of "Fight fight fight!" in the background. As soon as she had judo flipped me, I realised there was absolutely no way I stood a chance.

I tried getting up, but then I saw her hand. "Come on." She said, looking away. She continued. "Do you really want to give them what they want? A fight? Where I'm going to win."

I mumbled a false apology and took her hand. I could feel my heart racing. What? No. I was just winded, that's all.

As soon as I was on my feet, I ran.

A few hours and a swollen ankle later, I was just sitting in my room, eating blue cookies and staring at absolutely nothing.

Then the doorbell rang. I limped and opened the door and I swear, I had enough going on for a day.

When Annabeth turned up. She smiled annoyingly cheerfully as she pushed past me and headed to my room.

"Uh— whaa—." I tried asking.

"Math class, right?" She said, smiling at my annoyance.

"How'd you know I hadn't moved? Or how I was home?" I asked.

"Oh I found that superman who was talking to you in the morning. Jason, his name was, I think. He told me."

I smiled weakly. Curse Jason.

"So let's get to it?"

"One question."

"Uh huh."

"Why didn't you ever bother getting in touch?"

She scowled and then began her story.

And gods, I wasn't expecting that.
