Annabeth

"Let us out of here Luke." Rachel demanded through gritted teeth. She'd clearly been through much worse than me, there was a swollen cut on her eyebrow. Still, she eyed Luke angrily. It was sinking in- they hurt her- Rachel who had done nothing but help us—they'd lain a finger on her, Luke would hurt Percy- and then I snapped.

It was fruitless, but when I dug my nails into his skin, his eyes were full of anger- and surprise.

"You wouldn't Annie." He muttered, staggering up, and shoving me back.

"You still want to protect the girl? I say we get rid of her once we have the Fisher." That voice, made me want to curl into a corner and hide. Like knives scraping against hard stone. It sounded cruel, it sounded like-

"Lord Kronos." Luke said, bowing his head slightly.

"You have done well, boy, finding the girl." He said pointing to me. I bit back my words, I could see Rachel visibly trembling, her green eyes still bright, but weary.

I shut my eyes. If this was going to be the end—then at least I could go down fighting. As Kronos turned, he faced me, his startling gold eyes shining with amusement.

"You're a pretty one there, aren't you? No wonder the boy wants you safe. I remember your mother. Eyes just like hers." he mused.

I stared, stared right into his amused eyes, amused at my shock. "Yes," he whispered. "I knew Athena. So wise, yet so stupid to have chosen the wrong side. Pity, what happened when you were so young. But it had to be done."

"You- you killed mom?" I breathed.

He waved his hand dismissively. "If you're going to kill Annabeth, you're going to have to kill me first." a clear voice rung.

Rachel was talking, the tired, Rachel, Rachel who had no part in this, the Rachel who had taken Percy away, Rachel was protecting me.

Kronos turned his gaze to her. "Dare." he chuckled. "A mere side toy, but I'm afraid you're death might not be taken too well by him. Her death, however- is the death of life. Sometimes, Athena's words echo through my head, warning me that her project embodied the life of death."

"Do you mean the Fisher?" I asked, unable to help myself. My brain was working at a thousand miles an hour, I just needed information."

Kronos just smiled, his thin lips pressed together. "It is time," he announced to no one in particular. "To inform the Chases." He stepped out, Luke following, looking strangely alien, his pale blue eyes sad, leaving us there.

"Annabeth?" Rachel whispered. "Do you think we'll make it?"

I pressed my eyes together, remembering Percy laughing with me, with those gorgeous sea-green eyes. "Hope. Sometimes that's all we have."
