-Percy-
Annabeth had changed. She was hiding something. Something big. And I knew it. But I never asked. We were friends now, and I didn't want to ruin it. She'd tell me when she wanted to,, right?
I was taking her to Frank's house to meet the rest of the gang. She was going to go with Piper, but Piper got stuck with a fever.
"Hey Percy." She said as she walked in.
"Uh- oh hey Wise Girl!" I said, my voice sounding two octaves higher than usual. She looked amazhang. Yes, I had invented the word when I learnt that Frank's last name. Sure, she was in her usual outfit of faded blue jeans and messed up ponytail, but gods, she could not have looked better right then. She already felt like that big sister that I needed.
Then I noticed that she was staring at me.
She drawled, "Percy...are we gonna ever leave? At the rate you're going with that shoelace of yours, I'd think let's say December 2050?"
"Shut up Wise Girl." I said, grinning.
I stuffed the annoying laces into the side of the shoe and stumbled out. We drove. Frank's house was pretty far away, and considering the traffic we'd get at this hour, Annabeth was right to have turned up early.
After a while of generally awkward silence, I told Annabeth. "Hey could you put the music on?"
She picked up my phone. "Password?" she asked.
Shit. I mumbled, "1-2-0-7"
She choked. "What?" She gasped.
"You heard me. I needed a password that Estelle couldn't break."
She didn't bother responding.
Then she frowned. "You literally have one goddam playlist Percy."
"So?"
"You're annoying."
"Just press play, I love these and I think you will too."
It was basically Theana's songs. What was wrong with them. But Annabeth's cheeks flushed a bit. Hmmm, maybe she was crushing on her? What? I know I was. Don't judge! Celebrity crushes are pretty common!
Then she pressed pause.
"Nooooo!" I whined. "The bridge is awesome!"
"Whatever Jackson."
"So how many people have you dated?" She asked suddenly.
"One. But why?"
"Can a friend not ask?"
I shrugged. "We were in eighth grade, her name was Rachel Elizabeth Dare—."
Annabeth snorted. "Her initials are 'Red?'" She asked chucking.
"Yes but—."
"Don't tell me she's a redhead too!" Annabeth said giggling.
"She is but—,"
"Oh gods Percy..." She said. There were literally tears in her eyes.
I smiled.
"So what happened to her?" Annabeth asked, suddenly serious.
"She moved away. We spoke, but it sorta fizzled out so yeah..."
"Ahhh..."
Then she perked up. "Hey, is that big mansion his place?"
"Yeah."
"Awesome. Look at the structure. It must've been built a century ago. The foundations look strong... a little old fashioned but..."
"So still into architecture then?"
"You remembered?" She asked, smiling.
Gods, why did she have to be so pretty. And I only liked her as a sister. I think. Besides, she'd never fall for me. The stupid dork. Annabeth deserved the most amazing person in the world.
