-Rachel-
The jerk. When I came back to New York, I had only one goal. To not meet him again. Oh and the fact that Dare Enterprises wasn't too big here.
Since when was I trusting my luck?
And why did he have a girl with him? Honestly, I'm not the jealous type, but the way Percy broke up with me sucked. You don't do that to a fourteen year old's heart.
So I stormed up to him, and I swear I didn't intend to do it, it just happened, but I picked up the first thing I saw and threw it at him.
"Ow!" He yelled.
"You deserved it." I huffed.
"I kinda did..." He said sheepishly. "But seriously Rachel, a blue plastic hairbrush?"
I looked down and there it was- my newest weapon. A blue plastic hairbrush.
The blond girl with startling grey eyes was looking slightly bemused. She wasn't your stereotypical pretty, but she stood out somehow. I would've loved to sketch her.
She took one look at me and said, "So you must be Rachel Elizabeth Dare. Nice to meet you. I'm Annabeth. And you have excellent aim, I must say." She winked.
Calm down Rach. Don't attack Percy's girlfriend. You're almost eighteen. Do this like an adult.
So I took a few breaths and said, "How about we get some ice cream?"
I saw Annabeth's eyes light up while I could literally see Percy inwardly groaning.
"That's exactly what we were gonna do!" I smiled, suddenly feeling bad for judging her. She must've been a great person to have caught Percy's eye. He was picky that way. I only caught his attention because I was the only person who did the art parade. Have you seen a parade with just one person? That, and the fact that I was dressed head to toe in gold.
Annabeth dug in, while we, well, stared awkwardly at the table. Like, know those awkward times when you get a burger with a person who hates you? That kinda thing. He fiddled with the plastic forks (coincidentally blue) while I pulled out a marker and sketched on a paper towel. I drew Spongebob. What? Don't judge me! I do that under pressure.
"So..." He started. I raised my eyebrow. I attempted to, anyways. I can never managed to do it.
"So...?" I questioned.
"What brings you back?"
"Joining Goode High. Just for the next two years and then hopefully, hello art school."
"That's amazing! What did you draw there?" He asked pointing at my paper towel. I suddenly didn't mind the fact that I drew spongebob. His face was priceless.
"So Percy, tell me wh—." He cut me off saying, "One sec Rach, I need to pee."
"Oh okay." It was casual enough, but I knew he was avoiding the question.
Annabeth looked up at me. "Wait, Percy dumped you?!"
"Yeah...but I thought you knew. Also, can a fourteen year old really call it dumped?"
She shook her head. "He told me you two lost touch, not that he dumped you."
"Oh well. Now you know. You two look really cute though." I said.
Annabeth snorted, which was a terrible idea, since she was scooping up the remnants of her ice cream. "Percy...and me?" She was laughing, but I could see her blushing a bit.
"Sorry.I thought— but you like him don't you?"
"I—no—maybe—no. A bit. It's just a crush, anyway." She admitted.
"Aww, that's sweet. You should tell him." I said, deflating any chances I had left with him. Truth was, I didn't know how I felt about Percy—as in, I was confused as to whether I liked him as something more than a friend. Because he was loyal, and fun, and cute.
"Oh no way in hades RED." Annabeth said, snapping me back to reality.
"Red?" I questioned.
"I'm gonna call you that Red. Whether you like it or not."
I grinned. Maybe this wouldn't be too bad after all.
Then Percy came running out. "What do I wear for the date tonight?" He asked, looking frantic.
We both exchanged looks, then dragged him back to his apartment to give him a pep talk.
On the way out, I picked up that blue plastic hairbrush.
One can never be too short of them.
