I knew it was her. It had always been her. But I was too late. And I couldn't explain what I had just done, and she had gone to find Luke.

I sighed, feeling like an absolute piece of trash, hopeless and miserable— and I just headed home. I was tired— tired of this huge mess we were in, emotionally strained, and pained. It just wasn't fair. And I was probably being unreasonable, but at this point I just let it wash over me.

"Percy what the hell, where have you been, it's so late—," Mom started, clearly furious; but then she took one look at me and seemed to calm down.

"Inside, Percy. Tell me what happened." She said, firmly, but kindly. I swallowed, not sure if my mom was the best person to talk to about crushes? It that what this is? Someone broke up with me? I made out with someone who probably hates me?

But I told her everything, watering down the parts that I felt really guilty about.

When I was done she hugged me. "Percy you really are crazy you know?" she murmured. I smiled weakly.

"Now young man, I want you in bed. Now. And hand me your phone, I don't want any late night texting tonight." I started to protest but something about the look she was giving me meant that she was serious. I groaned and dragged myself to the room. "And take a shower! You stink!" She called out. Moms, I thought, smiling.

I woke up the next day with Estelle's big brown eyes looking right into mine. "Ahhh Estelle go away, I wanna sleep," I mumbled into my pillow. She stayed, her tiny finger now jabbing into my arm. "Mom's calling you for lunch Percy!" She said.

"Lunch?" I muttered. I heard Estelle sigh. "Yes lunch! Hurry up! She let you sleep in. It's totally unfair! You gotta tell her to let me sleep too!" Estelle started complaining loudly, so I turned around, picked her up and twirled her around before placing her on my bed and walked out.

"Oh the great sea monster has awakened." Mom said, as she saw me, but she was smiling— and making blue pancakes. I looked at them greedily. "Pancakes for lunch?" I asked. She grinned.

"Compliments to your sister. She didn't want you to miss them. Where is she anyway? She has to go to some school play with me. Need to get her ready for it. She's a crab and i have no clue how those buttons and velcro strips work." Mom drawled, rolling her eyes.

"Hey Mom, you don't worry about that. I'll figure it out." Her face relaxed. "Thanks Percy. You know what? When I'm gone, call your friends over, get some pizza— have fun. Here," She said tossing my phone from her pocket.

Okay I'll admit- I had absolutely no clue how to get that crab costume on her. But I mean, we managed, most of the claws were on. Most of them. Estelle scrunched up her nose, exactly like Annabeth did sometimes- and I felt a pang. "Percy I don't think you did it right!" She exclaimed lifting up her right arm to show two dangling claws. I grinned. "Estelle, you look adorable. Don't worry, even crabs get hurt- just like we do."

"Fine." she huffed. And walked out, not realising that her bright red lip gloss was smudged all over. She'll be a great crab, I thought as I called all the others over. Annabeth didn't even see the text, and I wasn't surprised, but the others were all heading over.

Thalia, surprisingly, was the first one to arrive. "Heylo." She said, clicking her tongue.

"How in Hades are you early?!" I asked, genuinely shocked.

"Reyna was driving." She said it casually, but you could she her pale cheeks glowing pink. I smirked, narrowing my eyes. "Seems like I missed a lot." I said, to which she smacked my arm and headed to the kitchen to scavenge the food from the fridge. "Keep something for the others!" I yelled. "Will do!" she yelled back.

Reyna came in, smiling a lot more than Percy was used to. Leo came in, doing a moon walk, with an increasing bemused and annoyed Calypso— a new girl at school who Leo had thrown a basketball at once. Ever since, she'd hung out with them, and while Percy didn't know her too well, he liked her and Hazel and Frank walked in to, well Frank fell in.

Jason and Piper turned up late, their fingers interlaced. Almost a half hour after everyone had arrived, Nico showed up- his cheeks tinged pink. "Will." He mouthed, and I smiled. And we honestly just- hung out. Had fun. Played the most ridiculous games. We'd just started a horror movie— it was so pathetically cheesy but it managed to make my heart pace— when there was a a sharp knock at the door. Piper, being at the back with Jason, got up and opened it. "Uh who are you?" She asked. Before he could talk, she called me- "Percy there's some blond man here," and if he was offended he didn't show it.

Course when I saw him I knew who it was. Mr. Dare. The only giveaway was his leaf green eyes like Rachel's but these eye, never sparkled.

"Mr. Dare." I said slowly.

"They've- they've taken Rachel." he whispered, breaking down.
