Shadow Leith wasn't normal. Not by any means. They weren't some stupid middle schooler with a heteronormative family and cared more about dating then current world events. That simply wasn't their life. And that was just how they wanted things to be. Their mom spilt when they were three, their dad wasn't ever even in the picture. Remington was supposed to be a rock star, instead he had to take care of his ex's kid. The thought that Shadow's life ruined his never crossed his mind. But it crossed Shadow's. So maybe that's why they jumped up the second Autumn hung up and ran into the kitchen to help Remington make dinner. Their Uncle Sebastian had taught Shadow and Autumn to cook a few years ago. Autumn liked it because it was fun and made her feel independent. Shadow learned so they wouldn't feel like they were such a burden on Remington. But Remington wouldn't let them take care of him and now cooking together while they each talked about their day and been added to the small family's nightly ritual.

"Hey 'Dow! Ya wanta start chopping the veggies?" He asked while putting something in the oven.

"Oh, yes Remington sounds like a wonderful way to spend my evening." They joked as they grabbed a knife.

That's another thing that made Shadow 'not normal'. They don't call Remington 'dad'. They call Sebastian 'Uncle Seb' and sometimes Emerson 'mom' as a joke but they've only ever called Remington 'dad' once. Legally he's been their guardian since their mom left but neither of the Leiths wanted to give him that title. They acted like best friends/siblings and they told each other everything. But there was one thing they never said out loud. That Shadow needed a Remington more then they needed a dad. That dads leave, but Remington never will.
