"Excellent work, Ballato," The Doctor Man spat. They were sitting in the room he had re-purposed to be his office. They being Brendon and Lindsey.
"I let Brendon infiltrate the Killjoys with the intention that Brendon would do something like this."
"SOMETHING LIKE THIS?! SOMETHING LIKE KILLING REM- er, Patient X, A.K.A. one of our greatest resources!"
"Of course not, Brendon had no idea that X would be injured. Isn't that correct, Brendon?" Lindsey said, looking at Brendon. He was starring down and his hands clasped together and placed on his lap, head hung in guilt.
"Brendon."
"Yes, if I knew Remington would be a casualty I would not have gone in there," He said, hating how emotionless he sounded. But if he let his feelings show, he didn't know what he would do. A man was dead because he was a slow runner. How are you supposed to feel about that? Maybe he would know if he was still a human being. Liseil may not have hacked his basic biology, but it had broken down his mind and sanity. It had made him as cold as everyone else in the building.
"And why exactly did you enter the room Stumph was being held in and attempted to release him."
Brendon gulped and stayed quiet. Because what could he say anymore? His lie bought the Killjoys trust and costed Remington his life.
"Why, huh? Do I have to ask the one who saw your little escape attempt on the monitor and thought to active Stumph's powers?" the Doctor Man taunted. To the guard stood at the door he said "Tell him to come in."
Brendon stayed looking down as the door creaked at the guard's departure and creaked again when he re-entered. Brendon didn't look up til he heard a sassy "Well if only Spencer could see you now, Beebo,"
Brendon's soft brown eyes met Dallon's piercing blue ones.
"I'm sure he'd be proud. Betraying us. Betraying humanity. Maybe Sarah and Ross made the right decision cutting you out of the relationship," Dallon sneered, liking the way Brendon flinched at the mention of his former datemates. He got all close to Brendon's face to whisper "In retrospect, I think there was a reason everyone you cared about left you behind."
"Not everyone," Brendon managed to say.
"What you say?"
He glared back at Dallon and tried to confidently say "Vi- The Killjoys care about me," but it came out shakliy.
Dallon laughed back.
"They won't when they've learned what you've done."
