"Hey, uh, it's Shadow right?"
Shadow looked up at the sound. Gerard was standing on the edge of the sidewalk in front of them. A man was standing in the front yard of a house cross the street watching them with a confused look. They recognized him as one of Viola's dads.
They quickly rubbed the tears from their face and weakly said "Yeah. Hi, Gerard."
"Whatcha doing there kid?" He looked concerned.
They choked out "I ran away, didn't get very far." With a noise somewhere between a sob and chuckle like the whole ordeal was funny.
"Do your parents know you're out here?"
They shook their head "My guardian doesn't know."
He walked over to them and sat down. "Do you want to tell me why you ran away?"
"I don't know."
"Okay... do you plan on going home?" He asked, not knowing Shadow was supposed to be in the house they were sitting in front of.
"Yes."
Gerard looked at them. Really looked at the. "So are you gonna go home on your own or are you waiting for them to come after you."
"I don't know."
"That's okay." Gerard said, as if to reassure them. "Would you like me to wait out here with you?" He was fully aware they weren't his responsibility, and he was probably being weird and/or creepy, but he couldn't just let a child sit out in the open where someone could just come up and kidnap them.
"Depends, what were you planning to do?"
"Well I was just going to drop Mikey off, maybe stay for coffee or something, but I can't just leave you here all alone."
"Ah yes, coffee."
He chuckled slightly at that before jokingly asking "What? Do you want to try some?"
⚠️"No, but I'd kill a man for some hot chocolate right now." They answered with a smile.⚠️
"Oh well I guess I should be a nice brother and save Mikey's life by making you some,"
They decided to take his joke literally and stood up. "Okay, let's go."
"What?" He questioned as he stood up too and wondered if no one ever taught this kid about stranger danger.
