TW: cursing, mentions torture and brainwashing
Jenna Toro had a good life. Better then she could have ever thought after everything she had done. She never planned to do anything immoral, but Liseil didn't see human beings, they saw a lost seventeen-year-old looking for a meaning in life with a best friend who was also trying to run away from their small town and become a live-saving scientist. They convinced Tyler Liseil was something great, and he just came right back and grabbed Jenna's hand and the two left Columbus behind in the dust, cuz they always said it would just be the two of them against the world. But then they grew up and Tyler thought the only way to repent for his sins was to marry a man he barely knew and give up everything to care for Viola. And Jenna was left with no one but the kid who convinced her to help him escape. Jenna knew she didn't deserve forgiveness, but Ray Toro had plenty to give.
So Jenna made a deal with herself: that she'd do everything she could to help undue what was done to the Killjoys, in exchange for just letting herself have a happy life. It was the only was she knew how to sleep at night. And she had gotten used to sleeping at night and not thinking about the past, then it came and hit her in the face. Especially when she found enough people to start a gang or a flash mob on her doorstep.
"Well if it isn't the infamous Jenna Toro! Tyler's mentioned you a few times but I don't think we've ever met in person." Said a one of the two adults.
"Um, hi?"
"Oh right! I'm Gerard Way," He said offering his hand.
"Mikey's brother, right?" She asked taking the handshake and letting the people in.
Whatever Gerard was going to respond with was interrupted by Jason exclamation of "V-Sibs! And others!"
"V-Sibs?" Asked Violette.
"Yeah, cuz you and Viola's names start with V, and we're siblings,"
"Well I guess you'll have to change your name to match," Viola joked.
"I actually was thinking of starting to use Pete, ya know? Like Mikey said. I don't know, but I might try it later." Jason said.
"Well whatever you want we'll call you, just tell us, but right now I think we should focus on this," Autumn said, brandishing the briefcase.
While Autumn and Brendon started talking to Jenna, Viola kept talking to Jason, but this time with Nat instead of Violette. Nat had of course emerged from the music room/Ray's office with Ray since he had been teaching them guitar. Upon seeing Gerard, the two quickly pulled each other into a tight embrace. (Ray and Gerard had always been the most 'touchy-feely' Killjoys who liked each other purely platonically, it probably had to do with them being the oldest and feeling responsible for the others and needing affection themselves, but who really cares?)
"Gee!" Ray started "How come you never stopped by til just down with like five teenagers? Wait, why are there so many teenagers? Gerard, you're literally scared of teenagers."
"Yeah, well some things are worth dealing with the irrational fear," Gerard said, not wanting to talk about how bad a friend and leader he had been "Ray, this is Viola, who I've heard you met, her friend Autumn and my, um, child, Shadow, their adoptive dad and our old friend Remi, ya know, Patient X, Brendon, who's a long story, and of course, Violette, your-"
"-Niece, yeah, I heard. Hi."
"Hey," She said back. Thus began the awkward conversations explaining everything that happened. Leaving Brendon feel uncomfortable when they got to how he factored in. Especially when Jason asked the million dollar question "How are we gonna get my dads back?"
No one said anything.
"You guys are the Fabulous Killjoys! You're superheroes! We have to get them back! Come on, their has to be some way, it doesn't matter if Jenna can make a medicine so me and Viola don't have to be separated. My Dad's your bother." Jason said to Ray, and to Gerard he said "And your friend, we can just abandon any of them."
"You're right," Brendon managed to say, "I know where they are and everything. I can tell you we can go and take down this section of Liseil like the Killjoys did 13 years ago."
"You're right, Brendon," Gerard said.
"Really?" Jason asked, hopefull.
"I'm gonna call Mikey and have Brendon tell us everything he knows. Then the Killjoys will figure out what's next, and when we go save Patrick, Tyler, and Joe and you kids will stay here with Jenna and Remington." Gerard said. He wasn't asking.
"What about Autumn, I'm sure her dad will appreciate her going home." Shadow sassily cut him off, "Not to mention Jenna might want to help you, and so might Remington, cuz in case you forget, Remington is a Killjoy too and you aren't responsible for anyone but yourself."
"Damn," muttered Remington, impressed.
"Good job," whispered Autumn.
"Definitely a Way," said Ray.
Gerard sighed, "I meant it as a general statement. And I know it is highly unlikely Jenna will want to fight, seeing as she's a scientist, but if she does want to, there's no reason she can't say so, seeing as she is an adult. And I refuse to but Remington in the path of danger after just re-living much repressed trauma. And I know I'm not responsible for you, but that doesn't stop the fact I want to make sure you kids are being taken care of. Because I care."
"But it's stupid you won't let us help when we're you best bet," Shadow said aggressively.
"Do you have any clue how to rescue someone, or use your powers for that matter?" Gerard snapped.
"I'm not talking about me, I mean us collectively. Or in this case, Brendon and Remington."
"How could they possibly be more useful then three highly trained, well, mutants?" Gerard asked, dripping in sass.
"Brendon knows his way around Liseil, he's one of them. And according to him Remington was apparently used by Liseil as a guinea pig and managed to brainwash him so bad, he had no clue of what happened," Shadow stated.
"Yeah, so they're easily susceptible, what's that got to do with anything?" He said, which annoyed Shadow even further.
"Cuz, dumbass, it be less suspicious if they just strolled on in to Liseil's property then their fucking failed experiments busting in though a window, bitch!"
Everyone stood there impressed, especially Autumn who asked "Who are you and what have you done with Shadow Leith?"
Shadow just glared at Gerard who glared back at them before exhaling sharply and angrily saying, giving in and yelling "Oh fuck you and your stupid reasoning skills and yo-you're fucking grandma's eyes. Why can't you just be a normal 14-year-old and not have good ideas?" He looked down for a second and paused to catch his breath, giving Ray the time to say "Where do you think that comes from?"
"What?" Gerard asked.
"Never thought the day I would come that I'd see two Gerard Ways, but wow. It's exactly what I would have pictured. "
Gerard looked back at Shadow. At their greasy dark brown hair they refused wash or comb like how his used to be, because neither seemed to care enough when there was more important things in life. At their set jaw and angry stance because they couldn't contain their determination to just their words. At the way they easily drew the attention of everyone else in the room to share their plan. Once upon a time someone asked him how he could raise Mikey to be so different from him. At the time he had just laughed and said 'Cuz the world can't handle two of me'. And it couldn't. Because Shadow wasn't him. They're passionate eyes might be hazel like him and his mom's were, But they were young and not as haunted and had yet to make all his shitty mistakes. And while those eyes might look the same as his and shine the same as Lindsey, the soul behind it wasn't his. They still had the light behind them.
"Okay," He said, breaking eye contact. "Let's talk."
