Today was a long day. You woke up late this morning -as per usual- and although panicked at the little time you had to get ready you found yourself also excited at the notion of Nishinoya waiting at your door. It was another close call; and your mom just laughed at you- insisting you should invite Nishinoya to dinner for some time leading you to blush profusely. It wasn't that you was against the idea- but you couldn't imagine spending an entire evening with Nishinoya. What would you even do? Do homework and put a movie on? Either way, you didn't completely rule out the idea. But Nishinoya and you both had practice until late; so you couldn't see it working out but you nodded regardless just to please your mom. It was finally lunch- and you were so excited to hang out with Hitoka; you haven't been able to spend much time with her lately and you were determined to make it up to her somehow- she was one of your closest friends after all. You were on your way to thank Asahi for coming back to the club, when you noticed Daichi and Yui having a conversation and you couldn't help but listen in.
"Wait- you've got a training camp?" Yui exclaimed shocked. You had similar thoughts so you couldn't blame her- you wished your club could have one too. You did talk to Yui about doing something over the holidays or practice matches but she simply said she was unable to do to the clubs reputation (and as a result lack of funding for the club).
"Yeah we do. I'm hoping it'll really help with motivating the guys and getting to know each other again. It takes time to be able to know everyone's strengths and weaknesses and coordinate your game play based on them. I'm worried Asahi and Nishinoya have lost the same mutual understanding they had all those months ago. They rely much more on verbal communication then they used too."
"I think they just need time to adjust. Though to be honest our team has lacked that for a while. But I want to ask you a favor."
"Sure. What is it?"
"Take (Y/n) with you. She's in our starting line-up for the prefectures and we haven't been able to hold practice matches or anything. She's got no experience- but a lot of potential. Please let her go with you." You were shocked by your captains heart-felt gesture; you had never thought your captain would do this for you but you couldn't help but grin- Yui-Senpai really was awesome!
"I don't mind. We were thinking of asking her anyway- the team really get along with her."
"I'm glad! I really think she can learn a lot from Nekoma."
You grinned even wider, and slowly backed away from the third year corridor; gaining a few weird glances along the way but you didn't mind them. You skipped all the way down towards the same bench you and Hitoka sat at every lunch, reminding yourself to thank Asahi later.
"You seem unusually happy. Then again- it's probably volleyball isn't it?" You laughed at her; she knew you too well.
"You bet."
"Oh and a boy was looking for you. I think his name was something like Nishi-"
"Nishinoya?" you exclaimed excitedly. She looked a bit shocked at your response before she smiled knowingly.
"Is he your crush? Boyfriend?"
You turned a deep scarlet at her words, waving your hands in front of your face frantically- stuttering with the same sense of panic and she laughed at your facial expression. "So I was right?!"
"We're just friends- I promise!" you insist, turning your head to the side to hide your blush as you reached into your bag to retrieve your lunch box. Parting your chopsticks eagerly as you opened the lid- to the wonderful sight of your lunch. You loved lunch time- almost as much as you loved volleyball and you laughed at the thought.
"Thanks for the food!"
You eagerly grabbed a piece of sushi with your chopsticks and happily eating it. You loved sushi- and your mom always made the best homemade lunches. Your mom was generally a really good cook; and cooked loads of treats and meals for you during your childhood. You almost missed those times, since you mostly miss dinner time by now as a result of practice. Both your mom and Hitoka scold you for it, but you couldn't help getting obsessed with volleyball. When you started you couldn't stop without outside input (usually Yui-Senpai screaming at you to go home so she could study).
"Oh (Y/n)! There you are!" Nishinoya's voice rang out across the school yard. You cringed at his loudness - you were sure he was getting plenty of strange looks at this point but knowing him; he didn't care at all. And it seemed you were right as he approached you with that same adorable grin on his face, paying no mind to the older year's glances.
"Hey Noya-Senpai! Want a seat?" you greeted, tapping the empty space beside you.
He blushed at your nickname, sheepishly rubbing the back of his head, but nodded; sitting down beside you and glances over to Hitoka.
"Hello again! I'm Nishinoya Yuu!"
She smiled nervously at him, yelping out her name as she began panicking. You didn't quite understand why- until you saw Kiyoko approaching you guys. Was she afraid of Kiyoko? But Kiyoko is so sweet - even if you were a little jealous of her, as Nishinoya was so in love with her- but most importantly, she was a great manager!
"Hello Nishinoya, (Y/n)" she greeted casually. Handing out a sheet of paper. She gave one to you too, and you were initially confused, until you saw what was on the paper. It was the information about the training camp!
"Yeah! I get to go as well! I heard Yui-Senpai talking about it with Daichi-San but I never thought I'd actually get to go!" Kiyoko smiled at you, before responding.
"Of course, we could use an extra pair of hands and it'll be a joy having you. Think of yourself as a co-manager."
Nishinoya stared at the paper with a determined look in his eye, before turning to you and smiling.
"We're gonna have so much fun (Y/n)!"
"Yeah!"
Kiyoko continued to smile as she watched the two of you interact, looking towards Hitoka who seemed to get even more nervous if possible.
"Hello there. I'm Kiyoko."
Hitoka blushed, muttering a 'hello' and her name and you smiled at her. You were so excited for training camp- and you're gonna make the most of it! You'll be there with the team- with Nishinoya- and you were going to get to see the greatest volleyball showdown you've ever seen. You simply couldn't wait- and it seemed Nishinoya couldn't either.
