Dylan
Mark glanced proudly at me, "No way, you're going to beat me with that." He nodded at Brayleigh's board and looked up at me and I frowned, "Why not? Brayleigh definitely pulled off the stun when she rode on it."
He held up a hand, "Ah, that's where you got it wrong... and maybe right too. Bee definitely rocked on it, but you, you will never have the skills to ride her brewer, she's the only one who knows all the tips to surf with that board... and impressing me, and I know exactly how to impress her." I frowned, I think he's falling for her.
Just then, Theresa came running over shouting, "Me too! Count me in!" I smiled, walking into the water and started paddling towards an incoming wave with the others not far behind me, but I noticed that Mark was the only one who laid back. Paul called to him, "What's wrong? Surf master just became timid master?" He only chuckled back, "They call me the Surf master and perfectionist for a reason!"
At this moment, he took off, and I concentrated on my own wave, as soon as it came rolling over, me and the others plunged into its spirals. I could spy the other girls at the distance cheering, but suddenly, I noticed that Brayleigh's expression had turned upside down, and she was looking at somewhere past us, she turned and said something to the others before we noticed that all of their expressions had changed. Paul had already figured out where they were looking at... correction... who they were looking at.
In a split moment, all of us had emerged from the wave and turned to look at Mark. He had hit the wave slower, so by the looks of it, he was going to hit the wave hard as the wave already started to pick up in both speed and height. Brayleigh's hair stood up on all ends and in a split second, she was running head first over into the water, no one stopped her, no one could. She was knee-deep into the water, screaming at the top of her lungs, "Mark! Stop! You won't make it, please!" Mark had heard, but it had only distracted him from the wave and shook his confidence level, but as usual, he was still a stubborn jerk, and continued moving forward.
So, I joined in hoping he would turn away from the wave, "Mark, come on man, listen to her!" But it was too late. He jumped from his surf board, but the wave was too high, he missed and and the wave hit him in the water as he plunged into the water, the wave burying him on the way and rolled him along towards shore, his board was tossed into the air and as it fell from the sky, we were all praying that the board will not hit him.
Unfortunately, the board fell right onto him as the wave closed up and hitting him hard on the head, I could only see his head dipping further into the water before the wave completely swallowed him whole, into its depths. I expected Paul to start going over and help him, but his eyes were fixated where Carlo's terrified eyes were. Theresa stood rooted on her board, Helena and Emily stood at the beach, everyone had stiffen unable to take in what they see. Paul came to his consensus and yelled, "Mark!" He was desperate to get to Mark but he was worried for Brayleigh's safety too. She got hit by a wave not long ago, she'll never pull this off alone.
Brayleigh was swimming towards Mark as quick as lightning when a wave hit her. "No!" Carlo's scream echoed miles away, but Brayleigh emerged and persisted in getting to Mark. It was obvious she was stopping at nothing until she got to Mark. I noticed from the corner of my eyes that Paul had shifted, he was finally moving towards Mark. Theresa followed suit still unsure of what to do. I could tell she was trying her best to ignore Brayleigh. Emily was yelling at the beach, Helena at the brim of tears. I paddled as fast as I could towards Mark, but I noticed that Carlo was heading towards Brayleigh.
I sighed taking after him. We reached much faster than Paul and Theresa who had yet to reach Mark. I shouted to Brayleigh, "Take your brewer, you'll be faster!"
With that, I jumped off her board and flung it towards her. She yelled back a, "Thank you!" over the roaring waves, and hopped with elegance back onto her board. She rode like a professional, with her hair beating behind her back. Her body looked like it would spring up at anytime to attack anything that would stop her from getting to Mark.
Sure enough, she got there quicker than the rest who were still paddling over. She had plunged her slim body, like a thread into a needle loop into the roaring waters as the wave took over her board. I tried to spot her underwater but we were too far away. I looked at Carlo. His eyes seemed less anxious but he was still watching very closely, "Well, what are we waiting for?" I grabbed onto his board as he paddled I kicked my legs from the back and we were almost getting there, just right before Paul and Theresa reached, plunging themselves heads first into the freezing water.
Brayleigh
I was silently praying in my head as I dove deeper for Mark. Please be alive. God, don't let anything happen to him. May the seas of Hawaii have mercy on him, and not devour him. Oh God!
That was when I saw him sinking. My heart ached, I shouldn't have distracted him, now I cannot be responsible for yet another death, if he died that is. I dove in and grabbed him by the hand and pulled him up, but my lungs were aching for air and my eyes stung from the salt water, as I slowly felt his weight anchoring me downwards, into the dark and murky depths of the water. I closed my eyes and tried propelling myself higher, as high as my body would bring us.
Suddenly, I felt a gush of water, and someone was grabbing onto my hand. I opened my eyes, and saw that Theresa had grabbed on to my wrist and Paul was holding Mark's arms draped around his shoulder. I sighed with relief as a big boulder lifted from my heart. We are going to make it out alive!
As we broke the surface Dylan and Carlo were already waiting for us. I heavily dragged Mark up to my brewer with the help of Paul. Dylan had found Mark's board and had passed it to Paul. I gasped for air and asked desperately, "Anyone, CPR?" Carlo was the one who offered, "I learnt it in school." He tried twice but nothing happened.
As he did the third, Mark sat up coughing out a whole lot of water, but since he was unstable he fell off my board, falling right onto me.
"Holy shit, I'm so sorry." I could feel him shivering so I wrapped my arms around him. He grumbled, "My legs are numb, and my head feels like a screaming siren." I giggled and helped him on his board, "Can you paddle back?" He nodded.
So, I jumped onto my board, flicked my hair back as I prepared to paddle off, I saw Carlo's pair of eyes searching wearily for a sign of injury on me, his eyes held a flicker of anxiety. I moved over to him and placed a hand over his shoulders and consoled him, "I'm fine, Carl, believe me."
His hair glimmered an iridescent golden in the sunlight and he smiled showing his row of straight, white teeth. The others were already at the beach as I helped Mark up. "I'm very tired..." he muttered, "I'm just going to lie down and......" he trailed off, tumbling towards the ground in front of me.
"Oh my......" I was caught in a state of shock and worry, "Mark? Mark! You son of a...!"
Emily was already by my side pleading, "Mark, speak to us, please!" I shook my head looked at Emily and told her urgently, "Ems, call the ambulance."
What happened to Mark? I just wanna thank my editors for spotting my hidden errors. I will give you a shoutout, if I forgot, please ask.
