Shane and Ryan run to the house. They stand in the middle of the street, curious as to which house it was. Another scream came and a woman ran out of the house. Ryan ran up to her, Shane closely following.
"Ma'am," Ryan says, stopping the woman in her tracks. She grabs Ryan by his arms and breathes heavily. "What's wrong?"
"There's someone in the house! I think my husband was killed!" She screams. Other people start to come out of their houses to see what's going on. Ryan and Shane run into the house. They quickly look for the room of the murderer.
"RYAN!" Shane yells. Ryan follows Shane's voice and enters the bedroom. The room is clean. This is strange to Ryan, but he remembers in the story that the policemen only found blood near his hands.
He leaned over the bed and saw a man. A man named George McKnowled. Ryan and Shane exchange glances. George looks as if he's sleeping. There are pools of blood under his hands. His wrists and hands have been slashed.
Ryan leaves to look around the house in case the murderer hasn't left. Shane doesn't question it. Instead, he looks around the room for a weapon of some kind. At least...that's what the police thought happened this day when he and Ryan covered it.
Ryan looked around the house. Every crack, corner, door, and room. He knew that the murderer couldn't have gotten away this quickly. It didn't matter anymore considering he didn't find anything.
Ryan returns to the bedroom with Shane. He's is looking at the man's neck. Paying extra close attention to it, eyes squinting like he wasn't sure he was seeing something right.
"What are you doing?" Ryan asks, disappointed. He's upset that the murder had gotten away and that Shane doesn't seem to care. He wishes he'd been more excited about this with him; uncovering dark truths, solving a case, going home. Looking down at a dead body was the last thing Ryan wanted to do anyway. But, Shane pulling a "Shane Card", stared anyways.
"Come here," He says. Ryan groans. Listening, he walks up behind Shane and looks at the man's neck.
"What?" Ryan asks, monotone.
"Look," Shane says. He points to the man's neck. Ryan noticed it. Red marks. Not just any red mark. Red marks that belonged to human hands. "These are human hands. The man was strangled. The reason the police didn't find this evidence was because it wasn't there when they found George." Shane said. He was right. When Ryan and Shane reviewed the story, the police could find no weapon and no signs of a struggle. The reason they didn't find the choking marks is that they went away when the police arrived.
"But," Ryan starts. "How did we hear the scream? Shouldn't the whole town have heard it? And, George is dead, his body can't heal." Ryan says. Shane shakes his head.
"He must still be alive...just...in a coma," Shane says. Ryan agrees. "Maybe everyone thought that the scream was just imagination, but when they heard it again, they ran out of their houses. Besides, bleeding out from your hands isn't exactly enough to kill you. Not if you do it right."
"If you do it right?" Ryan clears, giving Shane the most confused look. Shane doesn't seem to care.
"Yeah. That's...what I just said?"
"How would you even know?"
Policemen walk through the door.
"Who are you two?" One of them asks. Ryan begins to panic.
"We're investigators who heard the woman scream. We think this man is still alive. He could be in a coma. Please take a solid look at him." Shane said. He grabbed Ryan's wrist and pulled him away. The police let Ryan and Shane by, then looked at the man and realized he was still breathing.
Ryan and Shane left the house.
"We need to explore the outside," Shane said. Ryan looked at him confused.
"How did you do that?" Ryan asks.
"Easy. I just told them the truth." Shane winks. "Also because everyone nowadays believes anything and everything."
Ryan is silent. He gives an expression that says, Go on. I don't understand your catch.
"They're stupid, Ryan." Shane clears. Ryan expresses his understanding with a long "Oh!". Shane shakes his head and he begins to walk in the left direction. Following his suit and catching his drift, Ryan follows right.
...
"Find anything?" Shane asks. The two sit in a coffee shop. Ryan shakes his head.
"No, nothing. You?" Ryan asks.
"No. But, I did find some blood trail leading to the woods. I followed it and it stopped randomly." Shane says.
"It just...stopped?" Ryan asks.
"Yeah. I know, it's weird." Shane says. He sips his coffee and looks outside. Ryan does too. They see horses, cars, and people of all kinds passing by. Ryan sighs.
"How are we gonna solve this?" Ryan asks. "We don't even remember the next victim. We don't know where they're gonna attack. What should we do?" Ryan asks. Shane shrugs.
"Well...what's a place that you do remember mentioning in that story?" Shane asks. Ryan shrugs. He has no idea. "How about we take a walk around the town, look at all the streets and if one rings a bell then we'll stay by," Shane says.
"Why are you having really great ideas? Are you okay?" Ryan asks. Shane looks at him, giving him his infamous little smirk and head tilt.
"I'm fine,", He exaggerated the word "fine" to sound funny. It didn't work. "But I want to go home. I miss my cat, my house, my phone...my job. I miss those things and I want to go home." Shane says. He rests his face in his hands. Ryan sighs.
"Let's go back to the hotel," Ryan says. He leaves his coffee on the table, grabs Shane softly by the arm, pulls him up, and leads him to the hotel room.
"That was a great plan you had at the shop today, but I don't think anyone is actually getting hurt tonight," Ryan says. He undresses and gets into his pajamas (Yes, they bought a pair of those two). Shane does too but sloppily. Ryan hops into his bed and Shane hops into his. He passes out. Ryan smiles at Shane and chuckles a little.
Okay, Ryan, pull yourself together. Yeah, sure, Shane looks...kinda cute like that? With his hair all ruffled and mouth slightly open and...OMG STOP! STOP! STOP!
Ryan got under the covers and turned around, his back facing his friend. He attempted to sleep. It was only 7:00, but they were tired from staying up all night and all day to try and figure this out.
Wait...
Ryan thought. He shot up out of his bed.
