Ryan was telling Jake (his little brother) a story he had. It was actually before Shane and Ryan had started dating, and before they went to 1912. But Ryan needed to get it off his chest and tell someone.
(RYAN'S POV)
"Okay, so I was still working at BuzzFeed, and this is where it happened." I started. Jake looked rather interested.
"I was the last one in the building. I was just finishing printing my last page for the new Unsolved episode Shane and I had. I then heard the door to the building open and close. I wasn't worried about it, as I thought someone had forgotten something. So I continued to print.
"Anyway, this person walks up to me and stands about 3 feet away from me. I look at him and realize that I don't think I've ever seen this person before. In the office at least." I tell Jake. He now looks a little bored, but he doesn't know I'm actually getting to the good part of the story. Or for me, the pretty confusing part.
"I ask him if there's anything I can help him with. He shuffles his feet on the ground a bit, and he almost looks like me. He's got my build, my hair and my eyes but they were a different color. He was looking at the floor a little and seemed almost nervous. But he says that he just needed a pen. So I walk over to my desk and grab a pen. The man is still standing at his original spot but he is at least facing me.
"I grab the pen, but it slips from my hand and it lands straight up. Like, the pen was standing at the tip. It wasn't falling over, it wasn't wabbling, it just...stood there. I was almost in shock, because I've never seen that happen to me before. Or anyone for that matter." I say. Jake has now given me his full attention. But little does he know... I'm not done.
"I stare at it for a couple more seconds, before I slowly pick it back up and look over to the man. But he's gone. Not like gone, more like vanished. Because I didn't hear the door open and close, and I didn't hear him walking down the steps. It was so weird. I could've sworn I never heard him walk out." I say.
"Why didn't you check the security footage?" Jake asks. I shrug.
"It wasn't on my mind. I was so sure of what I had seen that I felt as if I didn't need to check the footage. And it was because I didn't think of it at the time, I was so confused.
"But anyway" I continue. "I go home and think about what happened. I was just so scared and confused.
"The next day is normal. But I stay late again, editing. I don't know why, but I almost felt compelled to stay. Like even if I wanted to leave, I couldn't. Soon enough, the door opens and closes and I hear someone walk up the stairs. I look up from my desk and see the same man. Only, he was wearing more sociable attire. He finds me looking at him and walks over to me. I stand up and apologize for staring. He says it's okay and that he just needs a pen. I find it odd that the same man, who is just dressing a little better, asked for the same thing. But, I grab the pen, and the man grabs my hand. I look at him very confused and a little angry. Like, "is this a joke?" Kind of look. But, he grabs the pen and walks away. But before he does, he says, "Sorry. I just didn't want you to drop it." Which...leaves me astounded." I finish. Jake has his mouth ajar and in total shock. He's confused. Just like me.
"Wait..." He starts. "He told you, the same man, told you that he didn't want you to drop the pen, but the night before, you did and he vanished?" Jake asks. His story doesn't really cover all the details, but it gets there.
"Pretty much. I know it's weird and has no explanation, but I don't know what to think of it." I explain. Jake leans back in his seat and sighs. Then he shoots back up.
"Have you ever seen this person again?" Jake asks.
"No." I tell him.
"Did you ever stay late again just to see if he would come back?"
"Just once."
"Do you think he will come back?"
"Probably not."
"Do you think it was the same person?"
"Let me tell you what I think happened," I say. I lean forward and place my hands out as I'm telling him. "I know this sounds totally dorky and it's probably not true, but it's the best I can come up with." I say.
"What!?" Jake asks, really wanting to know.
"I think that it was the same person, from two different dimensions, coming into this one." I say. Jake does not look amused. He looks fairly disappointed.
"Really?" He asks.
"You got a better idea?" I ask, leaning back into my seat.
"Yeah," he says. "I think it was the same person, from this dimension, who just dressed up differently and didn't want you to make the same mistake." Jake explains.
"How do you explain him disappearing then!?" I ask.
"Maybe he didn't. Maybe he just hid and waited until you were weren't around to leave."
"I locked the building when I left. There's no way he got in or out."
"Maybe, when you weren't looking or when you couldn't see or hear him, he left." Jake isn't letting go of his explanation. I get that, but I'm sticking pretty firm to mine too. I know Shane would think I'm crazy, I'll tell you that much.
But it doesn't matter. To this day, I'm still confused as to what happened or why it happened. I don't understand the concept of a person walking into BuzzFeed, asking for a pen, then vanishing immediately. It baffles me.
