This is a rewrite. I didn't like the original. (This killer is actually from Arizona, but this is happening in L.A. Deal with it.)
It was fall. Shane was spending the night with Levi, a friend of his. It was a bit of a crap house. It hasn't been used since Levi was small. But it did the job of keeping them warm.
Shane had the downstairs. Levi had upstairs. The head of Shane's bed was right up against the window. It looked out into this courtyard area.
Shane used to sleep with his window cracked open.
One morning, around 4:45 AM. It wasn't pitch black, but it wasn't bright either. It was just dawn. Shane doesn't remember if he was dreaming, he just remembers being woken up by this sound.
tap, tap, tap...tap, tap, tap
and then it paused. It was organized and rhythmic.
Shane thought it might be a bird, or a branch or something random, but there was just something intentional about it. There was definitely something tapping, he just didn't know what the source of it was. It sounded like human tapping. He kinda let it go on for a little bit. Shane thought it was Levi pulling a prank or something. So he was like: I am defiantly gonna make him wait, this is ridiculous. You know, like, I'm not gonna go and let him in after he just woke me up from a wonderful sleep. Like, how dare he.
tap, tap, tap
So, Shane lied in bed. But it just kept going. Shane sits up and looks behind him. He can see through the blinds...something move. There is probably a person out there. It's not a bird. And it seemed, just a little...sinister. Like it was trying to peek in, between the sliver.
"Okay, jig is up. I'm gonna yell at Levi." Shane thought. Shane was sure it was gonna be Levi because, who else would be doing this?
So, he whips open the blinds, angrily and he sees a man, who is not Levi. The man was crouched down, hands on his knees, so Shane couldn't really tell how tall he was. He was wearing a dark purple shirt, a Nike hat, black pants, and gloves. Black gloves. In L.A. California. Already a red flag. That felt sinister. And there was an energy behind his eyes, Shane knows this sounds dramatic, but he doesn't know how else to describe the feeling and it made him recoil. There was just something very wrong with them. His eyes were like black orbs. But Shane was so angry at this point that this idiot had woken him up, and um, it was between a yell and just talking loudly, Shane said,
"What the fuck?" He was just so mad. He seemed taken aback, when Shane swore at him. Then the man whispers to Shane,
"Can I talk to you?" It was pretty scary, actually. Just...the way the man said it...wasn't right. It gave Shane this really weird feeling in his stomach. He knew something about this wasn't right. The man was close. Like Shane could've slowly reached out and touched the man's face.
"Get the fuck outta here!" Shane said. They both had a major reaction to each other. He was freaked out that Shane was speaking loudly and Shane was freaked out that this man with evil eyes had woken him up.
It was such a bizarre request. Shane knew it was odd for someone to ask something like this at night. He felt as if this was wrong, and not appropriate. This is not right for this man. Even if he really is in need of help. Like, why wasn't he yelling or something? Call one of his family members or friends. Why a stranger? There was something really wrong about this situation. Shane had this feeling that he needed to quickly get away from this person.
The man still looked taken aback. Like, he wasn't expecting Shane to act this rough and hostile. His body moved backwards in a surprised way.
"Hell no. Get the fuck out of here." Shane then locked the window and shut the blinds.
Shane remembers being really bothered by the whole thing. He remembers telling Levi about it in the morning, as soon as he got up.
"Do you think this could've been The Baseline Killer!?" Levi said.
As soon as Levi said that, Shane's heart completely sank. Shane came face to face with an actual killer and rapist. There was a sketch of the man everywhere. Shane actually started to freak out. Shane didn't know if the man had been stalking him, he didn't know if he just saw the window open and wanted to peek inside, he didn't know if the man knew if it wasn't his house, but a friends.
Shane's family and friends freaked out. Shane didn't know if the man was gonna come back. Like...how crazy is this person? Shane was a demon of high ranking. He could easily take this human man down, but it scared Shane so bad that death could've been standing across the street, waiting for the man to take and kill him (once he found how).
Shane went to the station and met Sophia (another demon friend I made up). Sophia was an old friend, who's about Shane's age and works for the police. Mainly on murder cases such as this one.
Shane told her everything and she was super chill and cool about it. Everything for Shane started to line up.
"This lines up with the night he went up to a woman's car and said that he just robbed a bank and he needed a ride." Sophia said. Shane was on edge. He realized that this man would ask you things to throw you off and kinda get you flustered and then he'd strike.
The man wasn't trying to disguise that. He straight up asked Shane if he could talk and tried to get Shane at his weakest. This man made it sound like he wanted Shane's attention.
This man was good too. He barely left any clue as to him being somewhere. He was like a professional. Like he knew what he was doing.
Two or three weeks later, Shane gets a text from Levi saying that the man has been captured. He's been caught. Shane looked it up. 100% that was the guy. It was actually him.
What was the worst thing that could happen? When a murderer is tapping on your window as asking you if you could talk. It scared Shane.
He later saw the murderer on Death Row. He had murdered at least nine people and had raped lots of girls too. For a moment, Shane had this wonderful feeling of freedom wash over him. He was happy that this man had been caught. He wasn't a good guy and who knows what he planned on doing with Shane if he got the chance.
