"What took you so long? What were you looking for?" Ryan asks as they walk to the house. Shane shrugs.
"I was looking for my phone then realized that we're in 1912." He said. Ryan wheezed.
"Okay, what took you so long though?" He asked. Shane shrugged again.
"I didn't think it took me long," Shane replied. Ryan gave Shane a smirk, then continued to look forward. Shane's face turned red, but Ryan didn't notice.
They make it to the house and don't hesitate to set up.
"Should we set up traps?" Shane asks, smiling as he sits on the sofa. Ryan, standing and writing in a notebook, looks up at him, smiles, then looks back down.
"No. Those never work in real life. This isn't Home Alone." He says. Shane laughs.
"You don't know that. You never tried it." Shane says. Ryan laughs too. He then sits next to Shane.
"I'm not setting traps in a house that's not even mine. That's unreasonable." He says. Shane leans back and sighs, still smiling. Ryan turns the page and begins to sketch. His back is on the sofa, but he's sitting on the floor. Shane notices Ryan's drawing.
"Cute." He says. Ryan looks at him, confused.
"The drawing?" Ryan asks. Shane nods.
"Yeah."
"Oh, thanks," Ryan says. "Although I don't think I'm very good. I'm no Sara Rubin. She's an artist." Shane scoffs.
"It's amazing, Ry." He says. Ryan smiles and blushes a little, then clears his throat. He gets up, sets the notebook by the desk, turns to Shane and says,
"You had something you wanted to tell me before we went to the crime scene the other day, right? What was it?" Ryan asked. Adrenaline rushed up Shane's body. Ryan wasn't ready to know the truth about Shane's being? All Shane wants is for Ryan to be honest with him, and to continue to be friends. But, Shane doesn't know that Ryan wants the same thing...just a little more.
Ugh. How can Shane asks for Ryan to be honest with him when he's not doing the same?
"Y-Yeah, yeah. Um...I don't think you're ready to hear it though." Shane says. He's being honest at least. Ryan, on the other hand, gave the same confused he look he always gave when he was more weary than confused.
"If you didn't think I was ready to hear it, why'd you begin to tell me the other day?" Ryan asked slightly annoyed.
"Ryan, please...I don't think you're ready to hear this. It was a mistake to try and tell you, and I was more confident than I should've been. Please understand." Shane begs.
"Are you lying to me about something?" Ryan asks. Shane hesitates and stumbles on words. He sits straight up, worried.
"Shane?" Ryan asks softly. "What are you hiding from me? I won't judge you, you know?" He clears. Shane scoffs. He leans over and places his elbows on his knees, then closes his hands.
"Shane?" Ryan asks again a little louder but still soft.
Shane looks up at his friend. "Ryan, you wouldn't understand unless you've seen hell like me. Unless you've had friends who everyone thinks are these horrible people but in reality they're not. Unless you've ever tried to keep a secret for so long from someone who you care more about than life itself from. Unless you've tried to keep this secret from them and then during the process something goes wrong, but you don't know if it's really wrong, you're just confused. Unless you've ever been so scared to show someone who you really are because you know they'll run away in terror. If you have, Ryan...then there's no need for me to tell you. If you don't...you'll have to wait." Shane finishes. Ryan stands in the middle of the room stupefied and dumbstruck. He doesn't know what to say. He's never seen Shane so serious before...it's scary. "It's not that I won't tell you eventually, it's just not now."
"I've been in pain, Shane. Everyone has. I've kept secrets from people, I've done bad things that I wouldn't even tell God if he didn't already know. But...if you're not ready to tell me...okay. Just...don't lie to me. We promised each other we wouldn't do that. Okay?" Ryan clears. Shane looks down at the floor then back at Ryan. He sits straight up.
"Yes." He says. Shane stands up and walks over to Ryan. Shane stands in front of his small friend. He towers over him. "I do want you to know that I care about you. You do know that, right?" Shane asks. Ryan, with a serious face on, nods. Shane leans in a little closer to Ryan's and Ryan doesn't say anything about it.
"I care about you too, Shane," Ryan says, staring at his lips. Shane stares at Ryan's lips a little too, but they then look into each other's eyes. They close their eyes and lean in a little closer...just inches away...
BOOM
They back away from each other and lookup.
"Someone's upstairs," Ryan says. He's shaking a little. He doesn't know if it's because he was so close to Shane or if it's because of the noise.
"Come on!" Ryan says as he hurries upstairs.
