6: Close Call

"Come on!" Ryan says as he hurries upstairs. 

Shane quickly grabs two knives just in case, so he and Ryan are safe. He hands one to Ryan and looks forward. He's surprised that Ryan is going first, but it's Shane's job to keep him safe.

Ryan gestures to the other room. Shane nods. They both go in there, slamming the door open. They spot a girl who's carrying a hatchet.

She looks at them surprised, then stares at Ryan for longer than she needed too. Anger and hatred suddenly and quickly filled Shane's body, as it was his own job to protect Ryan from anyone who could hurt him.

Ryan blushes a bit. The woman sets the hatchet down and smirks at Ryan.

"Boys," She says. "Let's go over this, shall we? Speak like adults?"

Shane walks over to her, blocking Ryan from her. She frowns at him.

"You're blocking the view." She tells Shane. If it wasn't for Ryan placing his hand on Shane's back, Shane would have shown Ryan what he can really do. But, he took a deep breath and put his hands down, still gripping the knife. He stepped away from Ryan, but stood next to him. Closely.

"You're under arrest," Ryan says. The girl laughs.

"With knives? Oh, sweetheart," She says. Shane grips the knife tighter, using every ounce of his strength to not come down on her with claws sharp as tungsten needles. Shane was filled with rage, hatred, anger, irritation, disgust, and repulsive feelings for this girl.

"Don't call me 'sweetheart'," Ryan says. He has anger in his voice. "And you are coming with us." The girl smiles.

"I think we got off on the wrong foot here, gentlemen. Let's start over. My name is Leslie Brown. And you are?" She gestures to both of them. They don't answer for a little bit.

"I'm Ryan Bergara," Ryan says.

"Shane Madej," Shane says. The girl smiles at Ryan's name.

"Ryan," she repeats. "What a very handsome name."

Shane dropped the knife. Ryan looked at him confused. Shane slowly walked toward Leslie, then she bit her lip when she saw him. He then stood in front of her.

"I would drop the act before I kill you." He whispers to her, so soft that Ryan can't hear. She laughs.

"You can't kill me, Mr. Madej. You don't stand a chance." She says.

"Shane, calm down please. We need to have her as evidence." Ryan whispers in Shane's ear. Shane backs up and Ryan takes over.

"Give up. You're outnumbered and we don't want to hurt you," Ryan glances at Shane. "No matter who might disagree." Ryan then turns to Leslie. She starts to talk.

"I would give up, but you see, my family was burned down in my childhood home. I know who did it, as I saw their faces. I don't care if I have to kill children to get justice for my dead family, I'll do whatever it takes..." Leslie's words faded out for Shane. In his head...he saw her blood on his hands, her screaming and begging for mercy, Shane digging his nails into her skin and clawing at her throat. Shane didn't care where Ryan was at that point, just as long as he was away from her.

Shane shook the image out of his head, realizing he can't kill anyone, no matter how much he wants to protect Ryan.

"So you see, I won't stop. Even if you catch me." Leslie finishes. Shane wasn't listening to a word she said, but Ryan was.

"Well...let's test that theory," Ryan says. He grabs the weapon she had and throws it away from her. Ryan turns to Shane.

"Can you watch her while I grab someone?" Ryan asks. Shane nodded. Ryan knew Shane could easily overpower her if something went sideways. If his height wasn't enough to scare Leslie, maybe his eyes were. Beautiful but dangerous.

"Sure." He says. Ryan smiles and runs out of the house to grab the police. Shane looks at the doorway, then at Leslie. She's sitting on the floor, her knees pulled to her chest, her dress over her knees, and her wrapping her arms around them. She's got a sly smirk on her face, like she's ready to come with a smart-ass comment on whatever Shane may say.

Shane won't have that though, as he sits on the edge of the bed, in front of her. She smirks. Shane does too, but in a different way.

"Now...let's talk," Shane says softly. Threateningly.
