"I know how we can go home," Shane says.

Ryan's eyes widen at the words "go home" and chokes on his coffee a bit. Shane reaches out to him, trying to make sure he's okay. Ryan gestures to him that he's fine.

"I'm fine, I'm fine," Ryan says. "Alright, do what's the price? What do we have to do?" Ryan asks, sounding serious. He still sees that Shane is a little nervous and gets worried for him. If Shane is nervous...Ryan should be very scared.

"We have to tell the truth," Shane says. Ryan's face goes red.

"About what?" He asks, nervous. Shane takes a deep sigh.

"I want to tell you something. Well, two things actually," Shane says, trying to make the situation a little lighter, but it doesn't work, showing on Ryan's face. Shane clears his throat. "Anyway, if you wanna hurt me or not be my friend anymore, I get it and-"

"Shut the fuck up, Shane," Ryan demands. "Just tell me." He says. Shane sighs. He looks down at the table, his hands clutching the coffee cup. His stomach clenches at all the good moments they've had. But all the lies and choices Shane made only to protect Ryan, ate at him. Tears quickly started to stream down his eyes, while he sniffed, Ryan became worried. Shane continued to look down at the table. His hands shake, and he feels like hurling, but he wants to go home, and it was time to tell Ryan anyway.

"I'm not human," Shane says.

"What?" Ryan asks. Tears fall on the table and on Shane's hands.

"I'm not human, Ryan," Shane says, looking at him. "I'm a demon! I'm not a person possessed by a demon, I am one! I don't really know what purpose I serve in this world, but I'm stuck!" Shane started to sob. Ryan was heart-broken. His heart shattered and fell to the floor, when Shane said this. He hesitated to answer.

"I...have one more thing to tell you." Shane sniffed. Everything in Ryan froze. He couldn't move at all, as he realized that his best friend was a demon and that they've gone ghost-hunting before. "I'm in love with you, Ryan. I don't know why, and even I'm confused about it, but you won't leave my mind. Even in my dreams, I see you and I can't let go." Shane says. This isn't drawing attention, as it's 1912, and people often yell, but Ryan was too shocked to move. He shakes his head softly and looked betrayed. Ryan started to cry too, knowing his friend was a demon and was lying to him this whole time.

"You...you're a demon?" Ryan repeats, not understanding everything that's going on. Shane nods, taking a deep breath, tears still falling. "Y-you...I...Shane!? What do you want me to say to that? I'm not fully understanding why you wouldn't tell me this sooner. Why...what..." Ryan started to cry. He quickly stood up, shaking Shane. Shane looked up at Ryan, his eyes red and his face wet with tears. Ryan started to have tears too, as they fell to the floor, and he tried to hold back loud sobs.

"Ryan," Shane said, slowly getting up.

"NO!" Ryan yelled, stopping Shane from getting up. Shane slumped back down, heart-broken. Ryan couldn't hold the tears back anymore. "I need time to think about this. I can't trust you right now, Shane." Ryan walked away without saying anything. Shane was heart-broken. He felt as if his whole world crumbled before him. Shane knows that life will keep going on, but that's what hurts him the most.

Since I can't be with you right now, I will have to wait patiently, just dreaming about when you'll trust me again.

Shane thought. With all the smiles he was given by Ryan, he didn't know that it was his own fault who would have taken it all away. Shane knows he's in love with his best friend and that he gets jealous when Ryan is around other people, but it's hard to be in love with your best friend. He knows there's a risk.

The risk of falling in love with his best friend is that, Ryan's always been there for Shane and he's always reliable. Shane used to tell Ryan (almost) everything and Ryan would do the same. From family shit to high school memories to relationship problems with other friends. They were always seen together, because that's what friends are for, right? Shane was comfortable with Ryan, he trusted him, he would even die for Ryan. But...Shane fell for his best friend, and now there's no telling what will happen. What if Ryan feels the same? Then, there's always the danger of breaking up and ruining the friendship they once had. What if Ryan doesn't feel the same? There was the awkwardness between the two of them now. He'd lose his best friend either way. It's why Shane's scared of getting too attached to Ryan, and that's what he did.

Shane remembers getting yelled at by Sallie and GM one day when they found out about Shane's crush.

"SHANE MADEJ!" Sallie yelled.

"What's the one thing we told you not to do?" GM asked calmly, but still angry. Sallie was storming around the room.

"To not get attached to Ryan," Shane answered.

"And what did you do?" GM asked.

"Got attached to Ryan," Shane said, ashamed.

"Shane," Sallie says, "You know what happens when demons get attached to humans. They can't leave them, they can't let them go." Shane groans in disappointment in himself.

"I KNOW! I don't know what to do! I don't let other demons and ghosts touch him beside me! I don't even let other entities talk to Ryan! I'm stuck in this world with this human that I know I'm attached too and that I know I can't let go and I don't know what to do!" Shane yells.

That memory flashes in his head. He still doesn't know how to let go and that scares him. He can't let Ryan go. He doesn't know how.

Ryan doesn't LOVE me.
