Hunter took Delilah back to the fort where he had to clean her up yet again. Delilah was in much worst condition than Pilar, so she needed more treatment. It took hours just to clean the blood, but eventually Hunter took care of it.
"Hunter?" She said.
"Shh, don't talk," he said softly.
"I will, I just wanted to say you look better with your glasses." Delilah said causing Hunter's ears to turn red. He went outside the bathroom and returned with a glass of water for Delilah.
"After we're done, I'll go get you some food."
"Thank you."
"If you don't want to tell me, that's okay, but what happened down there?" Hunter asked.
"I thought you didn't want me to talk?" Delilah said.
"Well, now you have water, and you're more stable, so you can talk." Delilah took a deep breath, but not out of nervousness, not out of the terrifying moment, but instead, she took a deep breath because she felt like she was letting go of that time. She was safe with Hunter, she would always know that.
"First, he threw us into cages and beat us for no reason, then he said that we were here because he loved me and he couldn't fall in love and something about a Daniel kid. Then he made us make the video where I didn't want to make it, so he beat us until we said it, then you found us."
"I'm sorry," Hunter whispered.
"It's okay, I'm here again, that's all that matters," Delilah said, earning a smile from Hunter.
"Why didn't you tell me he was your brother?" Hunter was shocked when he headed her voice say that.
"How did you know?"
"When his face was close to mine, I noticed how much his features looked like yours. I just put the puzzle pieces together."
"Well, I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to judge me based off him," Hunter said finishing up on Delilah.
"You know I would never do that," Delilah said, hurt.
"I know, but I still kept it a secret. I don't know why," he said picking up his coat, "I'm going to get food, I'll be back." Hunter got into his car and started driving to the nearest restaurant.
When he returned, Delilah was sitting on the couch, sleeping.
'She looks so cute. Why can't I just tell her I love her? And why does she have to be so perfect?' He asked himself. Hunter walked over and dropped the food in front of her nose, which caused her to snap her eyes open and rip into the food. Hunter quickly grabbed his food before Delilah took it. After Delilah was done devouring her food, she stood up and went out to her tree, Hunter on her heels. It was cold out, considering it was almost winter, so Hunter draped his coat around her shoulders.
"God, I missed this tree," she said resting her head on the trunk.
'Tell her, tell her you love her.' He thought.
"Delilah?" Delilah turned her head to Hunter, who, despite it being fifty degrees out, was sweating buckets. Hunter stayed tongue tied.
"Hunter? Are you okay?" Hunter didn't respond, instead he crashed his lips on hers. Delilah was shocked at first, but then kissed him back.
"Delilah Jo Greth, I have been in love with you since I was in third grade. I saw you sitting in the back with your face buried in a book and I thought 'My God, she's perfect.' Ever since then, I've loved you. I think your laugh is the cutest laugh in the world, I think you're the greatest girl in the entire world and I would like to spend the rest of my life proving to you just how much I love you." Delilah sat, star struck.
"I know I don't have a ring yet, but Delilah Greth," Hunter propped himself on one knee, "Will you marry me?" Delilah simply kissed him and said, "You have no clue how long I have been waiting for you to say those words."
