chapter 13

I woke up for the first time with a smile on my face. I quite remember how Ed used to laugh at me when we were kids that I always woke up with a permanent frown. I looked down at the large arm draped across my waist.I wiggled my way around, careful not to wake him up. He looked so innocent. I couldn't believe what Simone did to him. And I had no idea what she planned on doing, but whether contract or not, there was no way I was going to let her get pass me.

My phone vibrated on the nightstand, and I pulled away to answer it. Becky's name flashed on the screen. Its too early for this. I let out a yawn before answering.

Me: Hello? Becky--

Becky: Where the hell is your fiance?

Me: He's here. He's asleep. Why?

Becky: I've been trying to reach him all morning.

Me: His phone went off last night so he put it on charge. Is something wrong?

Becky: You have no idea. One of the major share holders wants to buy his shares out. Mr. Christakis. He owns 40% the company.I've tried talking him out of it, and he still says no.

That jolted my eyes open. I turned to tap Xavier on the arm who opened up his eyes lazily.

"There's a problem" He sat up bedside me and took the phone I extended to him. Soon he was up and roaming, and cursing out in a language I couldn't figure out. I picked up my laptop and Logged into my company account.Xavier threw my phone to me and picked his up. In less than ten seconds, he was on the phone once more, speaking a foreign language I couldn't understand.

I went through the most recent documents from the meetings he had to see if there had been any alterations. It seemed suspicious that all of a sudden Mr. Christakis wanted to buy out his shares. Mr. Christakis was the last person I sat in on a meeting with, before the marriage bomb. If he had any problems, he would have let us know. It was in times like this that I thanked God for people like Veronica. She's the smartest IT person I know, and surely she would get some answers. I sent her a quick audio of what I needed her to do, along with my account details.

As I waited, I headed to the washroom to take a quick shower and brush my teeth. Twenty minutes later, I came out , wrapped in my morning coat to meet Xavier still on the phone, sitting at the foot of the bed. I picked up my phone to see a message from Veronica, stating that she had sent some documents to my laptop. I quickly launched it and opened up the zipped file she sent. It was a list of all the numbers and people Mr. Christakis had spoken to in the last 48 hours, audios of the conversations and text messages. I turned to Xavier, who rubbed a frustrated hand over his face every now and then. I know it was the wrong time to be having such thoughts, but he looked sexy as hell sitting there in just a pair of black briefs. He cut the call abruptly and turned to me.

" What have you got?"he asked. I gave him my laptop and took his phone. There was only one person on my suspect list. I pulled up Simone's number, and scooted closer to look at the list on the laptop.

"You think Simone did this?" He asks, looking through the contact list as well.

" Derek did warn me that she was going to do something. And I think I believe---- there! that's it. That's her number." I exclaimed

"How about you go and take a shower and get ready for breakfast whilst I listen to the audios?" If we both decide to sit here, we will be late." I proposed.

He nodded, handed me the laptop and headed to the washroom

I listened to them one by one, and I couldn't believe Simone would stoop so low. But then there were other phone calls that were more interesting than Simone's scheming. Conversations that would make our work easier.
