Chapter 22

I made sure there was no trace of sadness on my face as I rang the doorbell to Xavier's house. After a few seconds, my fiance stepped out. I had no idea how he could make a sweatshirt and a pair of sweatpants look sexy. Not to forget the apron. He pulled me in for a kiss, which was what I needed at the moment.

"I smell biryani" I inhaled, loving the scent of the pepper induced food. I shut the door behind me and took off my sandals. My feet were sore, and the cool tiles eased it up a little.

"Yep. Come in." He replied with a smile. My favorite smile.

I followed him to the dining table, where two plates of biryani had been freshly served.

(for those of you who don't know biryani, lol)

"I don't think I'm ever going to cook again" I joked as I sat in the seat he had pulled out for me

"I don't think I'm ever going to cook again" I joked as I sat in the seat he had pulled out for me.

"You don't have to. Taste it. Tell me what you think." He picked up a fork and fed me a little of his dish. I moaned as it hit my taste buds.

"This is delicious."  I picked up a fork and begun eating mine. He really was a good cook. Biryani was a particularly difficult dish.

"How's your mother?" He asked as we ate. I wiped my lips with the napkin he provided before responding.

"She could be better, but so far, I think she is doing better than before."

"She will get better. "

"I hope so. Were you able to get a tux?" I asked.

"Yes, actually. Although it's not as big of a surprise like buying a wedding dress. I wear suits everyday."

"True. You should try wearing jeans to work some time"

He choked on his food then and I let out a chuckle. We both took long drinks of the lemon infused water he'd served.

"Everyone will look at me as if there were horns on my head."

"I can only imagine. Are you guys having a bachelor's party?"

"Well, I don't think I want to be drinking. You know  how we men get when we drink. Damon, Jacob and I have decided to go over to Damon's to play video games"

It was my turn to choke on my food.

"Say what? Video games? You are grown ass men for crying out loud."

"Hey, soccer has no age limit, dear. You can join us if you want." He replied with a smile.

"I couldn't even if I agreed. I don't think I even know how to hold a gamepad. It's pathetic, really. The best I could do as a kid was sit and watch as Ed and his friends played"
