chapter 27

You know how everyone waits for the scene in Crazy Rich Asians where the bride walks down the isle? That's how every one was eager to see Mia. Her friends, some I'd never seen before were all present. Quite a large crowd for a private wedding. That's what happens when girls say 'I'll take care of it'.

So much for a marriage of convenience. A convenience that didn't need a wedding to solve. It had barely been months since I met Mia, and after a few hours, she'd be stuck with me forever.

"Hey, you ready? Regina says she's ready. Ready to meet your bride?" Damon whispered. I'd been asking myself that question ever since I asked her to marry me. She was way to good for me. Too good to be true. I nodded in response.

Just as Mia had requested, Can't help falling by Elvis Presley begun playing and all eyes turned to the entrance.

My heart skipped a couple of beats as she stepped in. Nothing else seemed to exist at that moment. We were the only ones in the room. Here eyes boring into mine and mine trying unsuccessfully to look away from the beauty before me. Everywhere seemed silent as I held her gaze. She truly was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen. A smile lit her face, and that was it for me. That smile assured me everything was going to be fine. We are going to be the best couple the world has ever met.

Virginia's POV

Mia was truly beautiful. No cap on that. I looked over at Xavier. He'd never looked at any woman like he was at Mia. Not even Simone. He was smitten. Everyone seemed captivated by her. I looked back to where Simone's seat was reserved. She still wasn't in. Her parent's being here was enough assurance that she was supposed to be here.

I pulled out my phone and typed a quick text.

Me: DITCHING THE WEDDING ISN'T GOING TO CORRECT WHAT YOU DID.

I put my phone away just as the pastor started talking. They actually look like the perfect couple. Mia was exactly what my dickhead of a brother needed. My phone dinged in my hand.

Simone: I'M STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. HAD AN ACCIDENT. I THINK IT'S BRAKE FAILURE. I'M FINE THO. NO SCRATCHES OR CUTS

I was heading towards the entrance as I rang her up.

"Where are you?" I asked, once she picked up.

The valet approached and I handed my car keys to him as well as my reservation card.

"I don't know the name of the place. There's no billboard here. I'll send you the location with google map."

"You sure you ok?"

I could hear her sniff. She was crying.

"I'm good. Stay for the wedding. I'll get an uber or something."

"Bullshit.  I'm on my way."

The valet drove my car upfront and I hopped in once he was arrived. I looked up the location she sent me. She was about an hour away.

I was still mad at her, but hearing her choke back a sob tore something in me. I turned up the volume of my stereo set and some Andra Day music filed the car. Thank goodness for no traffic.

After a while, I spotted her car, smashed into a tree. Not too bad of an accident. She seemed to have saved herself before any serious damage could be done. Just like Mia had said. She wouldn't create any sort of accident that would actually kill Simone. Mia was a woman of hidden identities, if you ask me. One who would do whatever it takes to get what she wants. I spotted her figure slumped against the chair with her eyes closed. I parked my car in front of hers and ran to her side. She truly wasn't hurt.
