Minho leads me out of the trees after I calm down and clean myself up a bit. He explains to me that the woods we were just in are only one section of The Glade.

"The woods are a nice place to go to think, and there's a clearing with a pond further in." Then he looks at me cautiously, as if he doesn't know how I will react to what he is going to say next. "Even further in is the Deadheads."

I look up at him -I'm about half a head shorter than him- and ask, "What are the Deadheads?" He looks at me, his eyes filled with pain. "Its the graveyard," he says quietly, and I instantly shut up.

Do I even want to know why they need a graveyard? I ask myself. The answer comes to me straight away. No. I glance around quickly, looking for a distraction, and a large garden catches my eye.

"Oh! Let's go over here!" I say, a little too cheerily, and drag Minho away from the woods.

He looks at me, knowing I'm trying to change the subject, and nods. "Yeah, sure." Then he shakes his head as if to clear it, and smirks at me, "You're not very subtle, you know."

I glare at him, "I wasn't trying to be," and he laughs.

"Sure sure, Greenie. Anyway, these are the Gardens where we grow our food. The Box brings up a few supplies, but mostly we have to provide for ourselves."

He glances at me, "Oh, by the way, you'll have to try out all the jobs around The Glade to find out which one suits you best. Because as Alby says-" He frowns at me and lowers his voice to imitate Alby, "-We can't have any slackers around here."

I laugh, and he joins in, leading me through the various fields and gardens.

"We grow corn, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, all your average vegetables, and we have a few fruit trees too." He gestures to the rows of small trees beside us, "We have apples, oranges, plums and cherries."

I look around eagerly at this last one. "You have cherries?" I ask excitedly, then frown. "How come I can remember that I love cherries but not my name?"

Minho looks at me with interest, "I have no idea Greenie, but it's your lucky day, the cherries just ripened." He grabs a handful of a nearby tree and hands them to me. I grin at him, the terror I felt when I first arrived a distant memory now.

"Thanks, Minho." I pop a cherry into my mouth and bite down. The sweet juices spurt over my tongue, and I close my eyes in bliss. "Mmm, these are great!" I open my eyes when I hear a snort from beside me.

Minho is looking at me, his already familiar smirk in place. "I better tell Zart to build a fence around the cherry trees, or you might clean him out." I laugh, "Well if they're all this good, I just might."

An unfamiliar voice calls out from ahead of us, and I turn to see who it is. A chunky boy with curly blonde hair is walking towards us. "Minho, you klunkhead!" He yells. "You better not be feeding the Greenie all my fruit!"

I start guiltily and hold the cherries behind my back. Minho puts a hand on my shoulder and addresses the boy I assume to be Zart. "Don't worry, Shes only had a handful of cherries."

Zart frowns at me for a second, before breaking into a smile. "Well, don't eat too many. Frypan wants to stew them and make jam and pies." He licks his lips at this, "And I want to make sure he has enough fruit to make plenty of both."

I smile at him and put another cherry in my mouth. "Well, these are delicious!" I say around my mouthful of fruit, "He should be able to make really good stuff with these."

Zart smiles and glances at Minho, "Hah! I told you the Greenie would appreciate my fruit!" Minho scowls, "Yeah well I didn't know it was gonna be a girl, shuckface, else I wouldn't have said it."

I look at him, slightly offended. "What's that supposed to mean?" I ask, and he looks at me guiltily. "Uhm, well..." he trails off, then finishes lamely, "I actually have no idea what I meant."

I laugh. "Wow, Minho; you sure do have a way with words." He grins at me, "Well in my defence, I've never met a girl before."

"True," I agree with him, "Now, where to next?"

~Time Skip~

Minho continues to show me around the rest of The Glade, introducing me to the Gladers we meet. Thankfully, with Albys new rule, none of them try anything with me. He points out the Bloodhouse and the animal pens and introduces me to Winston, a short but muscular boy, who is the Keeper of the Slicers.

"Winston and his boys are the ones who look after and breed our animals," Minho explains; then he continues, "They're also the ones who kill and butcher them for our meat."

I raise my eyebrows at this, "Charming," I say dryly. "And I guess I have to try out for Slicers even if I don't want to?"

"Yep!" Minho replies, grinning at my disgusted face.

As he leads me around, he points out the various jobs around The Glade. The jobs are Builder, Cook, Slicer, Track-hoe, Med-jack, Slopper, and Bagger. Being a Slopper meant doing all the dirty jobs no one else wanted to do; like cleaning the showers and bathrooms, or cleaning the Bloodhouse. Baggers are the ones who bury the dead Gladers.

"Zart is the Keeper of the Track-hoes, or gardeners if you prefer. Then there's Gally." He points out a strong looking boy with dirty blonde hair, "He's the Keeper of the Builders." I nod, Builder is pretty self-explanatory.

Minho leads me to another wood building with tables scattered outside it, some under a large verandah. "This is the Kitchen and Mess Hall."

I look at the lopsided verandah. "Doesn't look too much like a hall," I comment.

He pushes the door to the Kitchen open and gestures for me to look inside. "Don't go in," he warns, "Frypan, he's the Keeper of the Cooks, can get very angry if any shank messes with his supplies."

"Indeed I can."

I whirl around to see a dark-skinned boy grinning at me.

"So you must be the girl shank. Ain't you pretty." I blush, seeing he doesn't mean anything by it.

"Th-Thanks," I stutter, and his grin widens. "I'll let you look inside if you want, just don't touch anything."

I open the door wider and step inside. I look around, surprised at how clean and well kept it is. "You could never tell from the outside," I say absently, and the two boys look at me curiously.

Realising I had spoken aloud, I quickly look away. "Nevermind."

I look around for a few more minutes before Minho calls for me to come out, "Come on, shank! We've got places to be!" I grin and step outside.

"Ok ok, I'm here now, let's go," and he leads me over to the last building in The Glade.

"This is the Homestead. Its where the Med-jacks have their work station, where Alby sleeps and where the showers and bathrooms are."

He looks at me, "You'll probably get a room in here too, being the only girl."

He leads me through the homestead, introducing me to the Med-jacks Clint and Jeff, Clint being the Keeper, and showing me the way to the bathrooms and showers. Then he leads me back outside into The Glade.

"And that's that!" He says. "You officially know every building in The Glade; you'll get to know the other shanks that live here at your bonfire tonight."

I look at him, "My bonfire?"

"Yeah," he answers me, "Each month, when the Box brings a new Greenie, we have a bonfire so they can get to know everyone."

I nod, a grin slowly spreading over my face, "Sounds like fun."
