Chapter 34

I wake up with a smile still on my face, wrapped in Newt's warm embrace. I turn my head so I can look at him and see him smiling at me softly. "Mornin' love", he says, and I stretch my arms above my head, letting out a yawn, "Morning Newt, I love you".

His smile widens, love shining in his eyes, "I love you too" he replies and kisses the tip of my nose, then my cheeks, then my forehead and finally my lips. "You're beautiful when you sleep", he says once he pulls away and I blush, "Well you're adorable when you're sleepy", I say, and he raises his eyebrows in surprise.

"Really? Why?"

"Well you go all snuggly and affectionate, and you don't want to stop hugging me".

"Well that's understandable", he says, and I grin, "Maybe, but its quite a task to get you to let go".

We stay in bed, talking softly and cuddling together in the warm cocoon of blankets until I glance out the window and see what time it is, "Shuck Newt! The Doors'll open soon, and I need to go Running!"

I jump up and start getting dressed, throwing on my jeans, a grey T-shirt and lacing up my boots, "You should be at the Med-jack hut too, just in case. Oh shuck it! I'll be late and Minho'll kill me-" I cut myself off, realising that I'll be Running with Minho after I just very pointedly rejected him in front of everyone.

"He'll kill me..." I repeat slowly, lowering myself to sit cross-legged on the floor, "Newt, what'll I do? I rejected him in front of everyone, and he'll be so angry and sad-" 

"But he'll never hurt you, no matter what you do to him, Y/N, not intentionally anyway", Newt says, crouching down in front of me, and I look into his beautiful brown eyes I love so much, "Yes, he'll be hurt, and he might not want to talk to you for a few days, but he'll get over it eventually".

"Yeah but-"

"But nothing, he won't hurt you, and if he does, I'll punch him. Now come on, let's go before you're really late" he smiles, standing and holding his hand out to help me up. I return the smile shakily, a little of his confidence seeping into me and take his hand, letting him pull me to my feet. I kiss his cheek and whisper a 'thank you' in his ear, then grab my bow, quiver, and arm guard, and together we head to the Mess Hall.

I glance around as we arrive, there are quite a few boys up and about, calling greetings and making a low buzz of noise; I look around, looking for Minho's tall form but I can't see him, "Where is he Newt?" I ask anxiously, and after a few seconds of searching, Newt points him out.

He's sitting hunched over a table right at the very back, with only Ben at his side who has his hand on Minho's shoulder and seems to be speaking to him. I start to walk forward, and Newt sticks next to me, holding my hand in silent support.

Ben looks up as he senses people approaching him and gives us a half smile, along with a look that says 'wait there', then he leans down and says something to Minho. Instantly Minho's head jerks up, and his eyes latch on mine.

I have to hide my shock when I see him clearly; his hair is a mess, sticking up in all directions, his mouth hangs slightly open, and his clothes are stained and rumpled, so I conclude that he slept at that table. But the worst thing is his eyes. They're wide and bloodshot, staring at me with a wild gleam in them and no trace of the warmth and kindness that's usually there when he looks at me.

Then he blinks, and the wild look disappears from his eyes, leaving him looking haggard and worn out. "What do you want", he asks, his voice dull, and I flinch as if he'd slapped me. "Aren't we Running today?" I ask him, and he stares at me, a dead look in his eyes.

"I am. You're not" he says simply, and I stumble for a reply. "What?" I manage to ask, "Why not?" and he stares at me for a second before dropping his gaze back to the scarred wooden table in front of him, "Because I don't want to see you today", he says, and pain shoots through me. I expected something from him, but not this outright rejection, Although I did the same to him.
