Chris: You had a long day at work. You worked at an office as a secretary. Today you were late, your boss yelled at you, one of your colleagues spilt coffee all over your new white blouse and you had to work overtime because one of your colleagues didn’t show up for work so you were forced to do her share. This was by far the most stressful day ever. All you wanted to do was kick off your heels and relax on the couch with Chris. It was his turn to make dinner today so you knew you’d have a relaxing evening with him. You went home with your heels in your hand and snow on your shoulders. You dropped your keys on the table to find an angry Chris sitting in the kitchen with two plates of spaghetti that looked cold. Then you realized, with all the hustle and bustle at work you forgot to tell Chris you would be home late. You walked up to him, cautiously taking your steps and his head turned when he heard the floorboard creak.
“Hi!” you said but he only scowled and looked at the cold plate of food and then back at you.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you id be late. There was just so much to do today and my day went bad so I completely forgot,” you hoped he’d forgive you just this once.
“I had a bad day too,” he said spitefully, “I couldn’t hit a note that everyone wanted me to at the studio and I kept messing up the lyrics. But I still came home happily thinking that I would get to spend time with my amazing girlfriend. But she didn’t even bother to tell me she’d be late. Then I wouldn’t have made dinner for her. It was all a waste.”
He picked up the plates and threw the spaghetti in the trash. “You didn’t have to do that,” you said, “We could have just reheated it in the microwave.”
“You don’t get it di you? It’s not about the food, it’s the fact that when I come home tired from work or had a bad day, I expect my girlfriend to be there for me,” Chris said through his gritted teeth.
“What about me Chris? You’re upset because I’m late today. What about all those times you cancelled our dates because you were at the studio or the times when our dates are cut short because of the fans? I never got mad at you ONCE and here you are blowing your head off because I’m late? You need to get your shit straight,” you bellowed.
“I need some space,” Chris said before he went out the door and into the snow but you followed him and grabbed his arm, “I know it was my fault your da was ruined today and I’m sorry Chris but you can’t walk away from me whenever we have a fight. For this relationship to work we need to sort our problems out.”
Chris sighed and said, “I’m sorry. I know things have been difficult for you. I’m trying my best believe me. But the pressure of the band and our relationship is driving me crazy.”
“What are you saying Chris?” you asked.
“I don’t think we’re going to work out. We need to end this now,” he said pushing your hand away from himself.
“You’re breaking up with me after one fight?” you asked, astonished.
“This might be the first, but there will be more to come and you know it,” he said, “This isn’t the end. I just need time to figure out whether I ready to face so many problems.” Saying this he got into his car and drove off.
