My Business Law Assignment :)

As Jake opened the letter addressed to him from NYU and read it, his hands were visibly shaking. He had been accepted to the University with full scholarship. He was pleased and proud of himself because he always dreamed of joining NYU. But his happiness was short lived when he remembered that he hadn't told one of the most important people in his life that he had been accepted.

He was sure that Gemma, his girlfriend of almost three years would be devastated to hear that he was moving halfway across the world to fulfill his dreams leaving her behind, but he knew that he had to tell her one day so he figured now was as good of a time than ever.

He slowly punched in her number dreading every second of it. He held his phone tightly as it rang, deciding how he was going to tell Gemma.

"Hello?" her voice echoed from the other side.

"Hi," he softly replied.

"Hey Jakey, what's up? You usually don't call me this early on a Sunday?" she asked.

"I need to tell you something," he replied.

"Shoot," she said.

"I've been accepted into NYU and I have to leave in a week," he quickly said.

Silence.

For a solid two minutes that was all that was there between the two.

"Congratulations," Gemma sniffled and said. Jake knew she was crying but didn't know how to comfort her.

"Why didn't you tell me you applied?" she asked.

"I wasn't sure if I'd get accepted so other than my parents nobody knew. You're the first person who I've told that I've been accepted. I just got my letter few minutes back." Jake explained and Gemma patiently listened.

"So what's going to happen to us now? You know I don't believe in long distance relationships." Gemma stated.

"I was thinking about that and I was wondering....do you want to come with me?"

"WHAT?? Jake I can't just drop everything I have over here and come with you halfway across the world. What am I going to do over there?" Gemma exclaimed.

But Jake didn't answer her, he just said, "If you want to come with me meet me at the airport on 18th at 8:30 a.m. because my flight leaves at 10. Gemma you and I both know we want this relationship to work and I want to go study in NYU. We'll figure something out after we get there."

"What if I don't show?" she asked.

"Then I'll assume you and I are over," he said before he hung up.

Jake and Gemma were both 21 and Jake knew that whatever decision she made would not be based on whatever everyone else felt but it would depend on how she felt.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Two weeks passed by quicker than Jake thought it would. He and Gemma hadn't spoken since their last conversation and at the back of his mind he was dreading the worst.

It was 8:25 a.m. and Jake had checked in at the airport and was waiting for Gemma patiently. As he was about to leave he saw Gemma walking towards him with just a small suitcase and a passport in her hand. Jake smiled as she drew closer to him.

"you made it," he said and hugged her, but she slowly pushed him back saying, "I will get on that plane under one condition, if I'm not happy over there you have to pay for my ticket and other expenses to come back. Agreed?"

"Anything you say malady," Jake said as he gave her another hug happy that they had finally made a decision.
