WHEN MATT DILLION (DALLAS WINSTON) FELL OFF OF HIS CHAIR AT THE DRIVE-IN SCENE, IT WASN'T SCRIPTED.
When Matt first tried to "start in" on Diane Lane (Cherry Valance), he puts his feet up on her chair mockingly and falls over. However, he definitely did not mean to do that. You could hear how genuine C. Thomas Howell (Ponyboy Curtis)'s laugh was afterward, and you could even see him look at the director, expecting him to say cut. You could also see on Diane's face how hard she was trying not to laugh. When the director kept the scene rolling, the actors had to continue the scene as normal.
