IN ORDER TO CREATE PURPOSEFUL TENSION BETWEEN THE ACTORS PLAYING SOCS AND GREASERS, COPPOLA LITERALLY TREATED THEM LIKE THEIR CHARACTERS.
In order to make sure that actors playing rivals really understood why they should have hated each other, Francis made sure that the actors that played Socs were really treated like Socs. For instance, they got nicer rooms, more spending money, leather-bound scripts, better food items for the set, and even free room service, so that when their time came to act like rivals towards the poor kids, they weren't exactly "acting."
